May 22, 200521 yr Just an fabulous airplane I am really loving. Couple questions for the group though.1. Sounds - I was thinking of using the AFG YS-11 engine sounds as alias vs the default ones. Are these more realistic (AFG ones)?2. Anybody got a better option on a panel? I love the VC, but the 2D cockpit main.bmp could use some work IMHO. ..somebody like edetroit needs to get after it and upload it! (hint hint!!)3. Anybody got any representative flight plans for this bird?4. Also, what callsign is appropriate for Canadian CP-140's?ThanksEric AND
May 23, 200521 yr 1. Absolutely not! Rolls Royce Darts have a unique, high-pitched sound, whereas the Allison T56 has a characteristic growl that is captured in the sounds as they come.2. I don't think you'll find a better looking panel bitmap...I looked a bit myself. All the existing panels are old.Best,Davidhttp://img250.echo.cx/img250/2845/b18sig5kd.jpg

May 23, 200521 yr If someone willing to do an upgraded panel, I have no problem's taking the pictures. To note the panel used in the KBT P-3 is a VQ-1 ######ized version. The aircraft they used for photos is a UP-3A (Explains, if anyone noticed why the P-3A/P-3B hydraulic windshield wiper control is present in the VC -P-3C's is electric) The BUNO is 150526, it has a partial VIP kit intalled and painting it the puke yellow(interior color of the a P-3C) it was was their way of trying to make it fancy, they failed misrably. It should be gray. The aircraft was striken from the Navy records a couple of years ago and was given to the museum in Misawa Japan. No fault of the KBT team by any means. Enough worthless triva, would also like to see the partial glass flight station as well :)http://www.airliners.net/open.file/722951/L/As far as the sounds, unless someone makes another package you not going to get any better than what comes with the aircraft. Realisticly using C-130 sounds(same engine) wouldln't be very good either, they have power props, where P-3's have speed props thus big difference in sound. The YS-11 sounds would be way out to lunch for a P-3.:-outtahttp://publish.hometown.aol.com/p3superb/i...s/sign_name.jpgThere is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".- unknown"My daddy gives me up, to fight for you"- a US Military Members Child
May 23, 200521 yr Jeff, thanks for the excellent info.I already requested a refit on the gauges to fit RXP Jetline2 gauges (payware for those of us who have them.) and a refit with a RXP GNS530. Not accurate, but much, much more accurate and useful than the default GPS.Waiting to see if UweR or Erik Fjellstadt will take me up on the refit request! (I dont have the skills at the panel arts they have.)Eric AND
May 23, 200521 yr Now if you sir...being the best panel man in the business...were able to craft a main bitmap, that would be awesome! Major upgrade.Eric AND
May 23, 200521 yr Commercial Member OK, I'm not going to get into changing gauges or adding stuff to it, but if you can get me some decent pic's, I'll happily replace the panel bitmap. Don't worry too much about whether or not the gauges in the aircraft match this release, I'll sort that out. This'll make a nice change :-) Cheers Paul Golding
May 23, 200521 yr I've always felt that the panels previously done for the P-3/L-188 never 'captured' the expansiveness of the flightdeck. As Jeff can tell u too the P-3 front office is very big! With that in mind I put togther my own panels quite a while ago for both the P-3 and the civilian L-188. I also have them for both Pilot & CoPilot sides. The P-3 panel was recently updated specifically for the KBT bird by 'borrowing a gauge of two' from their gauge cab to replace what I had used previously. Here are a couple scrns to show u what I use.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117499.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117500.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117501.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117502.jpgThe only popup subpanels are the overhead and the radios. Other that those two I put everything I needed on the main panel.Jeff if u have any well angled interior pixs that u care to share I would love to work them into my panel. The interior pixs I have now are actually D/L'ed pixs from various P-3 deployment pixs scattered around the web.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117503.jpg

I keep calling it puke yellow, its a nasty shade of yellow(almost have to see it firsthand to really appreciate the nastiness of it), not sure who the colorblind guy at Lockheed was who came up with it. But would love to paint his house inside and out with it LOL.I'll get some pics in the next couple of three days. May 24, 200521 yr Hi JeffI`m afraid I`ve got nothing to offer as far as panels go but just wanted to say thanks for the information. There is a wonderful amount of realworld knowledge on these forums - this is what Avsim is all about.I live in NZ now but, as a kid, I lived in San Jose for a couple of years. My Dad was on contract with Lockheed at Ames, and I have very fond memories of watching the P3`s going in and out of Moffett field. I also remember the family day airshow with a Hot Air Balloon giving rides inside (!) the old Airship hangar. Do they still operate P3`s out of Moffett? It`s been 26 years (eek!) since I was there now.Sorry for the thread-creep. I`ll stop reminiscing now!CheersLungs
May 24, 200521 yr >Do they still operate P3`s out of Moffett?>It`s been 26 years (eek!) since I was there now.>Unfortunatly The Navy left Moffett in 1994. NASA now runs the show. :( Two of the six VP's plus the reserve VP there were disestablished, VP-40, and VP-46 moved to Whidbey Island NAS in Washington and VP-9 and VP-47 moved to Barbers Point NAS in Hawaii, and since have moved to Kaneohe MCBH, when the Navy shut down Barbers in 1999.Some more worthless trivia, and this time its really worthless LOL Any one remember that so called rapper MC Hammer??? He was an Aviation Stokekeeper Second Class(AK2) in VP-47 while they were at Moffett, prior to his 15 minutes of fame.:-outtahttp://publish.hometown.aol.com/p3superb/i...s/sign_name.jpgThere is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".- unknown"My daddy gives me up, to fight for you"- a US Military Members Child
