Blurry ground textures problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Since the re relase of fsx on steam i noticed that textures are really blurry also at low distance (like a lod radius of 1 or less).I have all my settings maxed up and tried a lot of things but i still cant manage on how dont have this result... hope you can help :(

Help AVSIM continue to serve you!
Please donate today!

Go to C:\user\your name\app data\roaming\microsoft\fsx

Open the FSX.cfg file in Note Pad and at the bottom of the text you type:

[JobScheduler]

AffinityMask=14

By the way, did you have a look at the cofiguration guide? It has more tweaks that might help you.

http://forum.avsim.net/files/file/41-basic-fsx-p3d-configuration-guide/

You have an i7, Affinitymask=14 is your magical friend. Trust me.

Thank you but i dont notice any differences... yeah i tried almost everything also from that guide, but the blurry remains in any case

I see you're running high settings. I havent done much with FSX:SE so far, but from MS:FSX and P3D I know you need quite a PC to do that. Mostly it's finding the balance in the settings and the tweaks can be adjusted as well, by changing the values and those differ for every system. When setting up a new sim, or a new computer, it takes time to find the right balance.

The problem is that also trying every settings combination the problem is still here, i had fsx on cd on the same pc some months ago and it was perfect, then the cd become unreadable and i bought this steam edition...

If you're running with Hyper threading Enabled then 14 isn't the correct setting for you.  I believe Hyper-threading is ENABLED in the BIOS as default.

Affinity Mask

14 = 1110  (4 processing threads, so Hyper-threading is Disabled)

254 = 11111100 (8 processing threads, so Hyper-threading is Enabled)

You can tell if Hyper-threading is Enabled or Disabled by bringing up the Task Manager and counting the number of processor thread windows there are.

Some believe it's best to run FSX with Hyper-threading Disabled, however it's been my experience with i7 processors that it makes no difference providing you have at least 4 processor threads devoted to FSX (Core 0 will always run FSX regardless of what your Affinity Mask setting is).

The AVSIM Setup Guide has more information on this topic.

NOTE:  If you stream your flights, then the Processor and Affinity Mask setting is a horse of a different color and the above settings might not provide the best overall performance.

I really thank you for the reply but unfortunatly it seems the problem has nothing to do with affinity mask or the cpu in general.

Try changing LOD_RADIUS to LOD_RADIUS=6.5

It should make textures in the distance less blurried.

Do you notice any improvement when running fsx with that set on 6.5?

(it is weird because even wirth 4.5 you shoudn't see all those blurries)

Yes changing it to 6.5 improves a little, if i want the right textures i have to set it like to 12, but then its almost unplayable (like 1-2fps). its very strange

Yeah, because 6.5 should be the right setting for high level PCs. Beyond that you just lose fps and risk more OOM errors.

What happens if you lower autogen settings in game, cut away traffic and stuff like that? (also remember that each time you change settings in game your LOD_RADIUS goes back to 4.5)

Do you also have the blurries if you activate DX10?

(unreleated but i saw from your .cfg that you also have WideViewAspect set to False. Considering your screen resolution, you should set it to True since you are on a widescreen monitor)

I noticed your dx9 display settings are only 16 bit, but I don't think that will help with the blurries, but change it to 32bit anyway.

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760.0]
Mode=1920x1080x16

change the 16 to 32.

Lowering setting only make it worse (without a notable performance difference), with dx10 enabled the situation dont change and also appears black squares (where should be lights on terrain i think).

Also setted WideViewAspect set to True

You can also try to max out your terrain mesh settings, like this:

[TERRAIN]

MESH_COMPLEXITY=100
MESH_RESOLUTION=22

Not sure, but it might help.

Try unlimited frame rate "UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0" and add "DisablePreload=1" to the [Main] section to enable vsync in fullscreen mode if you force vsync on

in nvidia control panel or Inspector.

This will allow fastest possible rendering.

OK, now I see what the problem is. You haven't set your Anisotropic filtering.

Simply choose "Anisotropic" as filtering mode. It's in your display settings in FSX.

Also, use nvidia Inspector and goto the FSX profile, set "Anisotropic filtering mode" to "Application controlled"

And set "Anisotropic filtering setting" to "16x"

Now it should look sweet :)

Sorry to disappoint, the texture had some improvements but there is still something wrong :(

Really?! I can't think of much else. Do you have many other programs running? antivirus active? Try turning off everything that you don't need while simming.

Try adding "Trilinear=0" to your display.device sections in fsx.cfg

Check at the same time that you see a line that says "Anisotropic=1". After that line you can add the "Trilinear=0".
