May 26, 200521 yr This wider shot makes more sense. They look like no taxi/parking zones. The internal lines bend so they join the peripheral strip at right angles to the taxiway. The surrounding lights are probably your blue taxiway border. They may be restricted to airport support vehicles so remain paved and not grass. Notice how the pattern matches the grass unpaved areas. On the FAA airport diagram these striped areas are treated as non-taxi areas (not grey or runway black).I notice the line running along the grass is even with the hold short/ILS hold short lines indicating the safe margin for runway side overhang for whatever might get on the grass. These same lines run through the restricted areas described.You'll see the same marking in many automobile traffic circles, large parking lots, etc.
