FSX Quit to Desktop

Well, things just got worse :( I installed Acceleration again after removing the folders foe simconnect in windows/winsxs. I then installed SDK/Sim Connect up to SP1A, and unfortunately, when i loaded up the sim, i got 3 errors - the first said that couatl.exe did not work and that i had to close it. Then, a message about the Level d 767 popped up saying that it detected a problem with LVLD.dll. And finally, an error on simconnect.dll...then the sim shuts down without warning.

Yes, you have quite a mess now. Simconnect is automatically installed when you install FSX/Acceleration.  Not sure why you are trying to install the Software Development Kit (SDK), SP1A.  What does that have to do with Simconnect?  It has a SDK for programmers of FSX addons in FSX Deluxe and as upgraded by Acceleration but it is not needed on your computer system or by you unless you are a programmer or you want to develop a mission or something like that.  The only suggestion I have is that you do a repair of FSX by inserting the FSX Deluxe DVD and selecting Repair.  Once completed, do the same for Acceleration.  If that does not work, then you are going to have to completely uninstall FSX, run a registry cleaner, then reinstall FSX (ugh!).

I recommend using the following guide for uninstalling/reinstalling FSX as there are a lot of hidden folders that must be removed - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx .

Best regards,

Thank you for the information..I thought that SDK was the Sim Connect. I think I'll just do a complete reinstall....again.

Hmm. After installing FSX and acceleration using the guide that you provided for PMDG, I tried to install FSUIPC and got an error about Simconnect and needing to repair my installation. I repaired acceleration and tried again...no luck. I was able to load up the sim without any addons of course.

So I installed some FSDT products and it worked...but couatl.exe is giving me the error saying that it will not load, (0xc0150004). I loaded up at Kennedy and the jetways showed, but no buildings. The addon manager has not appeared on the menu as well.

Hmm...I installed acceleration and it had an error. Must be something with my acceleration disk.

The error is "An error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect,version="10.0.61259.0",publicKeyToken="67c7c14424d61b5b",processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32...

This indicates the product is still in demo mode.  If the Addon Manager does not appear on the menu, then there is something wrong with the entry in the dll.xml as the dll.xml is used to show menu items.

The error is "An error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect,version="10.0.61259.0",publicKeyToken="67c7c14424d61b5b",processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32...

When you install FSX/Acceleration, Simconnect will be properly installed.  Problems occur, I think, when you move a dll.xml from a previous installation into the FSX folder.  Problems have occurred when you have not started up FSX after installing FSX Deluxe, then shutdown FSX and install Acceleration.  Your installation of simconnect with the proper version should be complete.  You then startup FSX again.  Looking on the Internet, many people have had problems with getting simconnect to work with FSUIPC module loading in the dll.xml and/or LevelD 767 - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/407830-how-does-one-re-install-sim-connect/ .  I think the biggest confusion is the fact there is a different way to install simconnect if you have a networked configuration so simconnect can 'talk' to your other networked computer.  Then there is the setup where you just install the non-networked simconnect and that should be complete after you finish installing Acceleration.

If you have a networked configuration, my suggestion is to not use the networked configuration until you have successfully set up the non-networked configuration (where simconnect 'talks' to ASN or another addon that needs simconnect to connect with your simulator.

I wish there were experts who knew exactly how to advise you but there are not.  I fear I am only making the problem worse for you.  If simconnect does not work after installing Acceleration and you do not have a networked configuration for fsx, then something happened during your installation of FSX.

I wish I could help you further to resolve your problem.  Good luck!

Thank you very much for the reply. I am reinstalling fsx right now again - the acceleration won't even install is the problem...it is almost done and then I get that error with simconnect. I did start FSX up after installing from the two disks up to the startup menu, then closed it and installed acceleration. My configuration is just one computer, no networks currently.

Is it possible that this error is not from the actual simulator install? My friend came over and we tried to install his copy of FSX and the same error occured...could it be something with my system? Any files that I didn't delete? I deleted the folders in appdata/roaming, documents and program data.

It appears you deleted all of the hidden folders.  Running a registry cleaner after the uninstall also will remove any issues with the system registry.

Again, there should be no issues with simconnect after installing FSX and Acceleration (make sure you do not install SP2).  If you want to network with another computer, then you will need to install the FSX SDK.

I reinstalled Windows 7 on Sunday and almost ready to install FSX on my new 500GB SSD.  I hope to investigate this simconnect problem you are having when I do reinstall FSX.

Best regards,

Ah, that must be it. I deleted those folders in winsxs with "simconnect" in it. Now that I have reinstalled, one of the folders is back.

I appreciate your help, good luck! :)

YES! It worked, fsx is now back up and running....and FSDT programs work! Only issue is that I tried installing an ORBX scenery and an error came up during the install about the simconnect.dll missing in one of the winsxs folders. But after running the sim, it all works :) :) Thank you very much!

Good news!  While you were getting your successes, I installed FSX/Acceleration and no simconnect is installed with those installations.  I think if simconnect is required by an addon, like ASN, they will install a version with their installation program.  Now in the process of reinstalling all of my addons.  Ugh!

It sure is good to hear! Just that the ORBX programs say that the dll is missing in the winsxs folder, but I checked and it's there.

Good luck with your sim reinstall - and yes, the process is tiring, but the end result is excellent!

Oh great...Ezdok isn't connecting with FSX. I only have one simconnect.dll in my winsxs folder...
