February 7, 201511 yr Hi all, I'm working on a repaint of Jet2. I want to make the engine cowling front rings a bit darker, but can't find them in the paint kit. Does anybody know if they exist in the paint kit, and if they do, where? Thanks for any help in advance. With regards, Jaap Moot
February 8, 201511 yr I think they are hard coded in the model file along with the fans, etc. So no way to paint them that I know of. Mark Keith
February 8, 201511 yr Author O.k. thanks Mark, a pity though. I've looked every where for it. It has happened in the past when I did a repaint of the Bae 146/200 using the paint kit, I could not find the landing wheel covers in the kit and found them eventually contained in the DDS files. So I thought maybe those rings where hidden like the covers. With regards, Jaap Moot
February 8, 201511 yr They are somewhere, I'm sure. Not much else to do than go looking at texture after texture though. --Peter Fabian
February 8, 201511 yr Author Found the answer. You'd have to paint direct on to the DDS file. The file can be found in 737-800 NGX under Texture common. The file is named as pmdg_NGX_misc.dds With regards, Jaap Moot
February 9, 201511 yr That could be handy. I had seen some BBJ's that had real shiny looking "chrome" rings. So I might could do those for some of mine some day. Should be no problem to convert the DDS file to BMP for adjusting the color. I was looking at all my various fuselage BMPs and didn't see the rings, so assumed they were in the model.. Didn't think to look at the misc file. :/ Mark Keith
February 9, 201511 yr were in the model.. Didn't think to look at the misc file. :/ If you put the edited file in the texture folder you are working on, it wont affect other planes. Wes Meyer
February 9, 201511 yr Author That's correct Wes. I would suggest creating another layer (photoshop) then in the layers drop down box select darker or colour burn to retain the established shadows and rivets on the rings. You could also use multiply instead. You have to experiment a bit for best results. Don't forget to merge the layers when painting has finished. With regards, Jaap Moot
July 5, 201510 yr Hi Jaap, did you succeed with the chrome effect? I tried to do it for the N888TY. Got the Fan in and out shiny and did the alpha channel in black but no chrome in the sim, only the shiny color did stay. Any ideas very much appreciated. Thanks! Miguel
