Hi all,if you've downloaded my new terrain mesh files of the southern Canadian Rockies - sebclod9.zip - and wondered about Step 3 in the installation instructions: the directory to be added to your scenery library is "BC-AB CDED1 terrain mesh" not "BC-AB LOD9 terrain mesh"!Sorry for the mistake *:-* Cheers, Holger

HolgerI have all your freeware work consolidated in one folder for mesh and one for scenery. With this new install I deleted the old BC files as instructed but dropped the new mesh files in that same mesh folder. Will I be alright with that or was it important to create a new folder for any reason? I think not, as you said nothing about priorities. But I thought I'd check, having strayed from the instructed path ..... ;-)Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Hi Mark, yep, that's the alternative method: dropping the new mesh files into "BC-AB LOD9 Terrain Meshscenery" or whatever name you gave that folder that contains my mesh files. As long as you remove the outdated bgl files as per instructions you'll be fine.Cheers, Holger

Hmmmm ... yes, I did that, very carefully, Holger ... but I've just dropped in to Castlegar and found some horrendous anomalies off the northern end of the runway, to the left. I'd better check again .....EDIT: I have Vern Opperman's Castlegar but standard FS2004 in the region apart from that and all your files. And I now see in his README that he mentions "unexpected waterfalls NW of the airport" if you get things wrong .... dang. All was well with your previous version, I've screwed up somewhere. Must have missed a file.ANOTHER EDIT: No, all the files you said to delete are gone and the new ones are all in place. The river south of Castlegar is now at different levels, and to the northwest there are several large spikes and a cliff shelf travelling off along the side of the river. Oh dear. Maybe I have some other rogue mesh somewhere that is tripping over yours. This new update does still work with Vern's Castlegar, does it, Holger? Have you tested that combination?Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Hi Mark,at the risk of offending the screenshot police again, here are two images I just took above Castlegar with only my "BC-AB scenery upgrades FS2004" and the new mesh files active. Also visible in the shots is Vern's Castlegar rendition of the airfield. The northwest end of CYCG does look pretty ugly because of the oversized default flatten switch for the airfield but it's not too bad. From your description it sounds more like you have a default or edited water file active on top of my replacements. Perhaps take a top-down screenshot and post it here and I'll take a stab at a diagnosis.Cheers, HolgerP.S.: I have Terrain_Max_Vertex_Level set to 20 but it should work just as well with 19 or 21. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/119015.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/119017.jpg

Yes, mine looks quite horrible compared to that! I use OceanFX and Vilk's water, but am not aware of having changed anything else mesh or waterwise in that area specifically. I see large chunks/spikes with water up their sides, uneven rivers and, seemingly, coastlines in the rivers, separated. Oh, and water going up hills at random.Grateful for any advice, Holger ... I seem to be in a mess here, and I'm usually very careful with my installs!Looking south from Castlegar ...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/119018.jpgLooking north ...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/119019.jpg(sorry, screenshot police!)Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Hi Mark, very pretty!Yup, those are the default water files on top of the replacements.1. Look for HP916130.bgl and HP916140.bgl in your FS9SceneryNamwscenry. They should be renamed to HP916130.bgl.org and HP916140.bgl.org, respectively, or otherwise deactivated.2. If those guys had *.org extensions already do a system-wide search for files containing "HP91613" and "HP91614" and let me know what you find that sits in active (in the scenery library) add-on folders.Cheers, Holger

Thank you Holger for such beautiful scenery! Downloading that scenery now!I want to try your Columbia River add-on but was totally confused by the readme. I have FSGenesis and US Roads and can't figure out what to deactivate, remove, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi again, Holger, thanks so much for your patience. This is what I get if I search:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/119025.jpgThe originals you mention were backed up, yes, although I see their replacements there. Were those yours? All the other files are yours except for Larry's Grand Coulee files, I think. I thought I followed his instructions carefully too, but will await your comments! Thanks again.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Hi Mark,Try renaming the HP916130.bgl & HP916140.bgl files to something like "*.bgl.anotherbackup" (or somesuch). Those HP916130.bgl & HP916140.bgl files should not be active in the FS9scenerynamw folder while Holger's substitutes are in place. (You're getting both scenery files working at the same time, with surreal consequences.)Best,Mike

Holger, I renamed the HP916130.bgl and HP916140.bgl files, but I still have river elevation abnormalities in the Banff - Camore area. Also the Banff grass airstrip is in a pocket. I am using your older scenery file for those towns. Thanks for the updates. There is clearly a diference in the terrain mesh. Cheers, Bruce

Thanks, Mike. I had just tried that when I saw your note, thinking they must have crept back in there in error or as part of someone other developer's install package. Killing them certainly does seem to solve the issue. Holger may have further comments, perhaps.Holger, I notice that your Castlegar, which you say is also the add-on, looks to be better blended than mine, which has the billiard table/golf course look to it so typical of FS2000! Do you use that airport texture replacement file(s) someone uploaded recently? Certainly seems to do the trick, whatever you use ...Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontEDIT: Banner police ... this banner was only intended for the MAAM-SIM forum, didn't realise it would show here. I'll reduce the size shortly, before you give me a ticket.http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo.jpg

Hi Alex, you're welcome. For the Columbia River add-on what you need to do is to install it as per instructions (including running those batch files). It will work fine like that but you'll probably see double roads in a few places (I assume you mean Flight1's USA Roads?). If you want to get rid of those you need to disable a few of the USA Roads files. Here's the relevant section from my compatibility text file:-------For example, Flight1's USARoads files are organized as LOD8 cells (30x30km) and it's easy to disable the ones that overlap with the Columbia River Gorge project. The LOD8 cells in question are:123x124, 123x125, 124x125, 125x125, 123x126, 124x126, 125x126, 123x127, 125x127In your Flight1 directory find and deactivate, for LOD8 tile 123x124, the file 123124A.BGL, for 123x125, file 123125A.BGL, etc. Also, keep in mind that urban areas can have several parts, i.e., "123125B.BGL" and "123125C.BGL".To deactivate a file or group of files you can either rename each one from *.bgl to *.bak, or simply move (not copy!) them out of their folder. For example, you could make a new "deactivated" subfolder in "FS9Addon SceneryUS Columbia River Gorge scenery" and move the bgl file(s) from the "scenery" subfolder into the new "deactivated" subfolder. In either case it is a good idea to keep track of (e.g., write down) any changes you make.---------If that seems to complicated and you're planning on getting the successor to USA Roads, Ultimate Terrain USA, you may want to wait a month or so because I intend to release a version of the Columbia River Gorge package for UT users.Cheers, Holger

Hi Mark,Mike was correct, those were the "offending" files. As for the airfield textures, I don't use anything special. I run FS9.1 (without the additional texture/terrain.cfg changes that were necessary to deal with the seasonal CTD bug before the FS9.1 upgrade came out) and I don't use any global replacement textures like you seem to. In other words, no tweaks.Cheers, Holger

for the record, i am having the same spurious artifacts including roads over water, and spiky scenery at and near Chelan. Holger was kind enough to help me solve a similar problem when I installed his beautiful columbia gorge scenery, so I hope to be able to work this one out, too...but, I wonder whether the coolee dam scenery is somehow misconfigured in my installation. I'll try to work it out...Sherm
