Aircraft Config files

Featured Replies

I have just re-installed FS2004 onto my new computer which uses Windows 8.1.  I am trying to re-install the Air New Zealand livery for my PMDG 737 which I got from projectopensky some years back.  However I know I am struggling with Windows File Explorer with 8.1 but I can’t find the Aircraft Config file where it lists all of the liveries something like this:-

[fltsim.xx]

title=Air New Zealand 737-719

sim=B737-700

model=AS

panel=

sound=

texture=anz

etc etc

Could someone remind me where this file in located in the FS2004 file structure please ?

Relevant aircraft.cfg would be in your Flight Simulator 9/Aircraft/PMDG737-700 (I don't know what PMDG named their old 737 folders but you get the idea)

Regards,

Mark

I was in a similar position but with a Windows 7 installation on a new rig.  Here is the advice I was given

In Win7/64 FS9 config file(cfg) is found at-

Users/your name/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FS9

Suggest you make a back-up copy before altering the .cfg file.    B)

Don't forget to show hidden files, if you don't, you won't be able to see the AppData folder.  Hope this helps.

That is the FS2004.cfg file.

The OP was referring to the aircraft.cfg file that every airplane has in FS.

Aside from what Mark wrote in post#2 I think even when you find the aircraft configuration file related to what you want to do you will not get good results at all. The PMDG model for the B737 and the model from Project Open Sky / TDS are different and the textures for each would be mapped differently ( parts on the textures in different places ) and the number of textures most likely won't match. So even if you get the aircraft.cfg file right and can get the aircraft to show in the aircraft selection menu it will look very strange to say the least. If you are using the PMDG model(s) you need PMDG textures for it and the same for Project Open Sky.

Thanks to those who replied. Mel, it worked ok on my previous version of FS2004.  I just copied a whole config file, pasted in and overwrote with the new textures that John Tavendale provide, renumbered the config file to the next number and bingo! one Air New Zealand 737 !

All I got to do now is find that darn Config file - can anyone point me in the right direction please ?

Maybe..

'Unhide' all files?

UAC slider right down?

in 8.1, if you click on an aircraft config file it will ask you to pick a utility to open the file with.  In that case, you need to pick Notepad from the "applications found on this computer" pop-up window.  I know this is the case with the FS9 config and probably also with the aircraft config files.

Look where your FS9 is installed, open and find a folder called 'Aircraft' open that folder and locate the aircraft you wish work with. Open that folder. There you will find a text file titled 'Aircraft'  with a CFG extension. Open that with notepad as Forkedtail instructed and as Robin suggested, UAC off and show all files and folders. I hope this helps.
