Milton's Beech 18 is out!

>(PS: I mentioned the RPM guage fluctuating wildly when set to>2000 rpm, 30", is this a known issue or something unique to>mine?)My RPM gauge gets squirrely around there sometimes too. Resetting throttle and RPM a time or two seems to smooth it out.

I have the same flux but can usually "tune" it out. I never could find the issue but other than rattling the nuts off the compass bolts, I see no issues there. :-)

Gentlemen and Ladies :-)We sincerely appreciate all the great comments in this thread. Scott and I were talking about this and he came up with a great idea. You know, there were so many of these aircraft touched by so many people in so many countries over the years, no one model does them all justice. There is no way can we provide a likeness to all the variants, all the panels, all the paint schemes, and that is somewhat sad.We would like to make the Gmax source available to the community of designers to continue the efforts in salute to this bird and the people who were touched by them.As such, I am making the Gmax source available to anyone who wishes to use it ... for reference, for parts, for modifications, enhancements or whatever as long as the end product is freeware and no money is made from the efforts or original file. The Gmax source is available here:www.flightsimonline.com/downloads/b18_d18s.zipWe do hope that others will create variants, floats, etc to enhance the Beechcraft 18 experience and keep the memories alive.Have fun while I take a short break and prepare for the next project.

Don't know for sure if the above has ever been done before, but my hat's off to a team that is one step ahead of the community.:-)

"Open source" aircraft. :DMilton & Co are deserving of huge commendations and thanks for this act of generosity. Now, who's gonna make the float version for me and the other BFUers to wring out? :D

>Don't know for sure if the above has ever been done before,>but my hat's off to a team that is one step ahead of the>community.:-) Thank you GOLF. However, there are many designers who make their source available to other designers. You'll find these at some of the design forum sites. All of our products are available for freeware use and have always been. I just wanted to make a point with the Beech 18 because it is a particularly popular aircraft.I would love to see others use what's been done already and build on it to save time, or to use as a reference for new designers.

Gentlemen: As I've written before, this is a beaut!!! to say the least. I love flying this bird. Two questions however:1) On the web site, http://www.flightsimonline.com/d18s/faqs.htm, there is a reference to adjusting the nav radios in the CFG file but no explanation why. I applied it and the navs no longer worked. Went back to the original setttings and they functioned again. Did I do something wrong and/or what is the purpose for the change?2) I don't see the HOBBS guages after applying the patch either. If they are on the co-pilot's kneeboard, how does one access it? Is it only in the VC view?Keep up the great work. I'll look forward to your other projects and response. But what can top this?

LOL I just deleted my previous response before posting... :-/Yes, just run what works for you ... same for me, same for the DC-3.The Hobbs Meters are on the VC CoPilot Kneeboard only. This kneeboard is not in the 2D panel. You have both the VC and NO VC models. Hit the down arrow when selecting the aircraft for the VC model and you will see the Hobbs Meters there.Hope this helps.

Milton, I've just now gotten a chance to play with this thing, and you, Scott, and Andre have somehow, someway, managed to top yourselves. This thing is beyond amazing. I'm a big VC guy when flying GA, and I am simply blown away by how photoreal and yet very usable the 18's VC is. And releasing the source so people can do different mods to it? Wow.Honest to God, this thing slaughters most of the payware that's out there except the very best. It's astounding.Thank you guys for all you've done for the FS community, for all the hours you've put in and all the products you've created (I have 'em all!). Y'all really are the best.Lewis "Moose" GregoryRichmond, Virginia

Thank you Lewis (and everyone :-) and you are welcome. We are certainly pleased that the D18S is well received and hope that all of you have many enjoyable hours in her.A personal goal on this aircraft was to keep the efficiencies high with decent frame rates and VC gauge smoothness. This is certainly our best overall product in that regard. All of our models' gmax source are available as open source for others to improve, modify, or as simple reference. We hope that will inspire further variations and better products for freeware offerings.

The one question I have is, you recommend the Gee Bee racer sounds to replace the default aliased sounds in the 18, but those sounds are for a single-engined aircraft. How do I modify the sound.cfg to make it work properly with the twin-engined Beech, or do I even have to?Lewis "Moose" GregoryRichmond, Virginia

Yes, I love Mike's sounds for this. You should not have to change anything. However, some may benefit from the changes that Willy over at SOH suggested for the sound.cfg.number_of_engines=2eng1_combustion=COMBUSTION.1.00eng1_starter=startereng1_combustion_start=combstarteng1_shutdown=shutdowneng1_prop=PROP.1.00eng1_non_combustion=NON_COMBUSTION.1.00eng2_combustion=COMBUSTION.1.00eng2_starter=startereng2_combustion_start=combstarteng2_shutdown=shutdowneng2_prop=PROP.1.00eng2_non_combustion=NON_COMBUSTION.1.00It's simply adding an engine 2 to the front of that sound.cfg replacing what is there.Hope this helps.
