July 2, 200520 yr Hello simmers http://www.smileys.ws/sm/action/00000030.gifIs there software (freeware or payware) out there that lets you:1. See a picture of the plane you select from your aircraft folder2. Shows all the lighting-effects 3. Lets you drag the lights with your mouse to different positions (in this case Im interested in the strobes)Im asking because I've just spent a fruitless & frustrating hour twiddling numbers in the aircraft.cfg trying to change the position of the some strobe-lights I added to one of my add-on planes. The reason being the strobes it came with are very sad-looking, they blink on and off every 8 seconds or so. So I added rapid-flashing strobes by inserting lines in the .cfg pointing to another planes strobes. It took me an hour to realise that reloading the sim by pressing CTRL + : does *not* show the results of an updated aircraft.cfg. The only way to show that result is to exit the sim and then load it up again - extremely painful http://www.smileys.ws/sm/speechless/00000003.gifWould appreciate any pointers :)Thanx!!!!
July 2, 200520 yr Author Only tool I know of coming close to your requirements is Aircraft Container Manager (ACM, payware; www.aircraftmanager.com).Great tool for visually positioning lights, contact points, COG, and a ton of others.Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. July 2, 200520 yr No need to reboot between sessions. Just select another aircraft, then go back to the one you've modified!Allcott
July 2, 200520 yr Thank you Andreas :)Checking it out now. The site mentions FS2002...but I guess the software runs on FS9?-------------------------------------------------No need to reboot between sessions. Just select another aircraft, then go back to the one you've modified!-------------------------------------------------I knew that. Well...er...not really http://www.nextgenerationrecords.co.uk/boa...con_redface.gifHee hee! Thanx for the tip!
July 2, 200520 yr you don't even have to go that far - just opening the select aircraft menu and clicking ok will reload your present aircraft.regards,MarkXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1GIG/X700pro256 Regards, Mark
July 2, 200520 yr Actually guys...all that you said is true but the new (edited) strobe positions do not show up using that method. They only show up if you exit the sim completely and then go back in.For example I moved the left strobe towards the front of the plane a little (because it was floating behind the wing in midair). I then reloaded the sim using the methods you all kindly told me about - but I see the strobe still floating behind the wingtip in midair :(But I exit FS9 and then start it up again - and the strobe has moved forward.Arrrrrgh! Irritating! I wish FS9 would reload the aircraft.cfg like it does the panel.cfg! But thanks again for all the help :)BTW if you guys are getting reloads of the aircraft.cfg then something funny is going on here http://www.fs2004.com/forums/html/emoticons/prop.gif

I've been creating/editing .fx placements for years and have had success 99.9% of the time simply by using the procedures described in the posts above. In fact, creating a keyboard shortcut to "Reload User Aircraft" will also work most of the time... ;) Fr. February 12, 200719 yr I concur with the others about reloading AC after a cfg edit - I do it all the time(Ctr+F11 is my hotkey). There IS a case where AC reload WILL NOT work, I'm told (and so I observed) and that is when you also have active AI using the same AC (as I in fact did at the time). You only said an add-on; are you perhaps using is also for AI?Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
