July 5, 200520 yr Wondering what I should get for my next biz jet. I enjoy the X but want something a little smaller. Which should I get, the CJ1, or the CII? Or hold out for their new XLS?Thanks,
July 5, 200520 yr Depends on your style of flying. The CJ1 has a glass cockpit similar to (but simpler than) the CX, the CII has an old style steam cockpit you'd expect from a 1960s/1970s aircraft.I like the CII, don't own the CJ1.
July 5, 200520 yr what are your negatives with the CII? Is the panel in the VC bright during the day and at dusk? Do you have good options to light it up? Anything negative about it? Just wondering what to expect, thank you.
July 5, 200520 yr If your looking for something 'Negative' about the ES CII you won't find it... I'm still looking myself, I'll let you know when I find something... :-badteeth FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
July 5, 200520 yr Hi,Last weekend I bought the CII and to be honest I'm a bit disappointed in the panel graphics. I can't say anything about the CJ1 because I don't have it.But I also have the Citation X and that is a great aircraft.But as always: to each his own Location: Vleuten, The Netherlands, 17.3dme SPL 108.40 | Simulator: FS2024 System: AMD 7800X3D - Gigabyte X670 - RTX 4090 - 64GB DDR5 - 2 x 2TB SSD - 32" 1440p Display - Windows 11 Pro
July 5, 200520 yr only thing is that the panel's a bit hard to read at lower resolutions (1024 and lower) and it needs more than 500ft to stop :)
July 5, 200520 yr The CJ1 is a great model and has great VC detail as well. I own their Premier, 400, X, CII and I just picked up the CJ1. CJ1 is my favorite out of all of them.Dave---------------------------------------------------System Specs:Athlon64 3500+ ClawHammerECS NForce4 A-939 Mobo (1ghz FSB)2 Gigs OCZ Performance PC3200 Ram (Dual Channel)ATI Radeon X800Pro PCI-E 256MB (Catalyst 5.6 @ 550/540)SoundBlaster Live 24bitSaitek Cyborg EvoWinXP SP1
July 5, 200520 yr I own them both and really like them both. They have fairly similar performance in terms of speed and range (they both like to cruise around M.65 and have a range of around 1000-1200 nm depending on load and wind) but the CJ1+ has an all-glass cockpit, and the II/SP is mostly analog, though I've done a Reality XP refit on mine, and am seriously considering buying the RXP Jetline 4 package for my CJ1+ and C-X because I have some readability problems in the VC in the X.The complaints about the II/SP panel readability are valid, it can be a bit hard to read at lower resolutions; I run 1280x960, which is what Eaglesoft designed it for, and have no problems, but I did have trouble at 1024x768 before I replaced my video card. The CJ1+ glass-panel displays are easier to read at any resolution, but the lettering on the panel can also be hard to read at other than 1280x960 or higher. As for the actual flying part, you won't be disappointed with either one. They aren't nearly as fast as the X, won't go as high or as far, but they're both excellent hand-flyers, very easy to handle, and will both get in and out of places that you wouldn't expect a bizjet to go. The II/SP, in particular, is a really impressive short-field bird considering its size. Both do have nice virtual cabins, though neither one has quite the detail of the "deluxe" version of the X. Both have excellent VCs, as you'd expect from Eaglesoft. If I *had* to pick one, I'd pick the II/SP, just because I'm a "steam gauge" fan, and I like the analog panel with a few RXP tweaks. Plus the II/SP has a higher useful load, and since I do a little flying for a bizjet VA, that's important. But really, you won't go wrong with either one.Lewis "Moose" GregoryRichmond, Virginia Lewis "Moose" Gregory Durham, North Carolina
July 5, 200520 yr I have the CII, and really like it. I have the Hawker, and I like that one, too. I have the CII stock, except that I replaced the Sandel with the one from RXP, and that has essentially added glass gauge capability to a small hole in the panel. I use the JL4 in the Hawker. I am waiting for the new Beech 400A and eyeballing the CJI, but if I will have to use JL4 or other gauges to get it right, I may just stay with what I have.On point: The CII is a good short to medium range performer, great hand-flyer, and can get into and out of the shorter (not "shortest") fields. The improved Sandel makes it a star.
July 5, 200520 yr I'm a "glass fan" and enjoy the CJ1 for it's small field/short hop capabilities :-)
July 6, 200520 yr Enjoy the slowest flying and worst jet performance in the world, with any of them both! Hehe just kidding, but well, id get bored with citations. Nice avionics though.

I'm curious about the mods you made to fit the RXP into the Citation II. Can you share?Jeff,Richmond, VA Jeff Bea I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.
July 6, 200520 yr Thanks all for the responses. Looks like I still can't make up my mind, but will probably pick up the CII since it has the nice steam gauges, it will be a different option than flying around in the X. So many planes, so little time! (and money)
