May 27, 201511 yr Hi, I don't often ask for help, but does anyone have an idea why I would get a "sim1.dll" crash while using the 777? My install is FSX SP2. It is virtually a vanilla installation - the only add on aircraft is the 777, only installed livery is CX normal livery. Only add ons are GEX (just to flavour up the view a little) and Scenery Tech land class, all stock airports. I have Win 7 64 bit and 8mb RAM, i7 2600K CPU not over clocked. My reading found the common theory is a corrupted aircraft livery, but I don't believe this would be the cause, given the above. This is also why I haven't submitted a ticket as I am positive it's nothing to do with the 777. Thought some learned folk out there might be able to shed some light. Thanks David David Porrett
May 27, 201511 yr There might be more information of value here, what is the event viewer providing for the app crash event? Often, a module named in the crash report is an innocent bystander and something else like memory or buffer exceptions could be in the event viewer data. The CX normal livery, I apologize for my ignorance, what is that? I assume it is a PMDG livery installed with the OC? When does the crash happen, is it repeatable or random? Also, don't be shy about submitting a ticket to PMDG Product Support... I bet they'd enjoy a unique ticket. Dan Downs KCRP
May 27, 201511 yr Author Hi Dan, thanks for responding The CX normal livery, I apologize for my ignorance, what is that? I assume it is a PMDG livery installed with the OC? The "Cathay Pacific Airways" livery downloaded from the OC When does the crash happen, is it repeatable or random? I did a reinstall of Windows etc and have seen it come up a couple of times, cannot find a common time/place it happens. I've completed a couple of 9-13 hr flights. At the moment I'd potentially say "random". what is the event viewer providing for the app crash event? May 28, 201511 yr I don't often ask for help, but does anyone have an idea why I would get a "sim1.dll" crash If this happens you have some trouble with textures of the airplane or livery you install. When is a big issue and can't read well, and texture are corrupted, then you get sim1.dll crash. It happens to me a couple of years ago with a free beluga. That comes with bad textures. It was hard to find this problem, but i solved deleting that aircraft. Artur MunteanuThe secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made!

That is consistent with what I have read, and considering the only add on I have installed is the 777 with the CX livery (also the "House" liveries), I am loath to suggest it is the aircraft as it appears no one has experienced this, and I wouldn't suggest it is a fault of PMDG. I'll try further flights to see if it happens again - if it does, maybe the download got a bit scrambled and I'll delete the livery and try again. David David Porrett
May 28, 201511 yr David, if the livery were 'scrambled' I would expect more obvious indications but I'm not an expert. The Exception code: 0xc0000005 means unauthorized access to memory and it can be cause by a number of problems. Since your problem is random and infrequent, I would make sure that admin rights are assigned, drivers are up to date and so on. Make sure the easy stuff to correct is all in order. Dan Downs KCRP
May 28, 201511 yr Author Thanks Dan, That's all done, so I'll just monitor it and see what happens. David David Porrett
May 28, 201511 yr That's all done, so I'll just monitor it and see what happens. In case you're not aware, there is an excellent FSX CTD forum here in AVSIM that might be a good place to investigate. Dan Downs KCRP
May 28, 201511 yr Author Thanks Dan, I have looked at that and it mainly references aircraft texture issues as the main cause David Porrett
