In an effort to figure out what's causing my stutters in FSX and P3D I'm posting a pic of my task manager processes section.

 

Do any of these look out of the ordinary?

 

Punkbuster file is normal that's for Battlefield 4.

 

Looks reasonable to me... nothing stands out as being out of place. (Obviously every system is different, but these all look OK).

Not out of the ordinary in the least, but I seem to think that disabling the indexing of drives for search is one of NickN's optimization steps, though I might be wrong.

I think there was a reason I left it on... can't remember why anymore!!

Oh I've been here, just doing more reading instead of talking. A 3 1/2 year old bouncing around the house will do that to 'ya!  Cheers!

Just out of interest if you disable the Punkbuster service does this make any difference to the stutters you get? I found this thread which suggests it can introduce some system overheads.

Punkbuster and the Apple stuff I would suspect as possible culprits.

 

Also, the searchindexer.exe is not related to removing the indexing from the hardrives as per Nicks guide.

 

this is a service which is running as part of your ability to type in anything and allow the PC to look for it. It powers Windows Search. Whilst turning off indexing on the drives will make this slower, it still works. If you disable this service it wont work at all.

 

As per Nicks guide, the "Windows Search" service should be set to automatic - delayed start.

 

If you have it set this way, searchindexer.exe will be running in your list of processes.

hmm whats a classicstartmenu.exe ??? you running custom shell  program for menu?

Turn on the CPU Time column in Task Manager. Then instead of suspicion you can use data to determine what is consuming the CPU (if anything).

I did this....what do the numbers mean?  seconds a process is using my CPU?  Also why is the system idle process usage always so high?

Since you are hunting for stutters or clean system, my recommendation is, above the clean list of processes and services, to run a Latency Checker. LatencyMon comes to mind.

Usually reveals if you have a bad networking driver, like the current series of Intel onboard NIC drivers...

 

Btw. I do not use iTunes, but I do use the iCloud module. No problems with this.

Hmmm  I could run that...  are you familiar with the program?  I've never used it.
