There is nothing close to ultra hd mesh in fsx in terms of resolution

What if Orbx mesh was 10m?

  • There's no reason to switch...and you wouldn't want to anyway because each sim has its good and bad points. Learn about how to make X-plane look good for YOU and how to use it well...and then use BOTH

There's nothing wrong with having more than one simulator in use.   It's not about switching, it's about enjoying what each platform may have to offer.  I currently have FSX, DCS, and XP10 all insta

  • Have to agree with the others when it comes to (happily) using two sims. You will have a lot of money and still current models running in FSX so you can try X-Plane and decide whether to 'grow' it or

Just this past weekend I decided to fire up FSX again.  I have both FSX and X-Plane 10.40b5 on my computer.  It didn't take long to realize that FSX had no redeeming value.  The old familiar aircraft and flat runways and, yes, airport scenery, but virtually the same at every airport. Between what X-Plane now downloads with updates and small local airports I have built to look pretty much like the real thing, are substituted with less than adequate stuff.  I will leave FSX on there for a while, but it is all but dead.  I tried P3D in it's first releases, but didn't see much difference in it and FSX, except it was not as versatile in that some things just didn't seem to work.  I tried their second release, and ended up taking them up on their refund - which they didn't particularly like..

Yes, X-Plane is a struggle to learn.  The interface that is despised by most new advocates is not as "user friendly" as the two previously mentioned flight simulators, but when you get used to it, it is much more capable of adding functions than any other simulator I ever used - and that has been many - dating back to the first attempts ever made during the early 80s.

I just compare it to driving a fancy automobile as opposed to a "Hot Wheel" tricycle.  A little more learning needed, but ultimately more satisfying.

I do use both.  I don't use old familiar aircraft for FSX.  Mostly A2A & RealAir.  A2A just released a new one. Very well done, and excellent flight dynamics, from these two companies.  Flat runways were for a reason. Microsoft had far too many airports to deal with, and we can imagine the complaints, if a few thousand of those ended up with some of the roller coaster runways we see in X-plane.  However, there are many non-flat airports in X-plane that really look good. As to airports in FSX, I don't use those boring default airport buildings either. The Orbx Global just changes all of the airports I use out here in the mountain west. It's a BIG change, look wise. Beats an empty airport by a long shot!

I am an Orbx fan for FSX.  It's so much like being there, and really adds to the immersion. But to X-plane's credit, and especially Mr.X, there is an Alaskan airport, along with X-planes mountain scenery, that just outdoes Orbx for the same area. It's also freeware. On a cloudy darker day, I was blown away, with how authentic it looked. The new Palm Springs airport looks great too!

Point is, with my new computer setup, that provides very fluid & smooth frame rates for both sims, as well as a super detailed monitor image compared to the old system...........................I'd be a fool, to not use both sims. And that's just what I do!

It looks better at a distance, but close-up, FSX/P3D use much higher resolution meshes.

Without adding input to any numbers on a mesh comparison, I will say that I vastly prefer being able to see some mesh definition and crisp appearance on mountains 20 miles away versus having clay like features with an obviously low res texture, that sharpens up and visibly changes shape as you approach.  If the mesh is slightly less resolution, I don't mind, since the appearance of the mountains in the near distance more than makes up for it.

I've done a ton of photography in the mountains, and there's been times, with RTH adding to the mix, that XP looks as lifelike as I've ever seen in a sim.

What if Orbx mesh was 10m?

I'm *NOT* talking about mesh that covers a small* surface... please show me any mesh that covers all europe/USA in a higher resolution than not even UHD mesh , rather HD MESH.

* small compared to a complete continent coverage yeah?
