July 13, 201510 yr Hello I am pretty new to the world of PMDG and i am trying to find my way around. I have the NGX for both P3D and FSX and have just logged into my flight pc after a few weeks away. The operations centre advised me that there is a new update for the P3D version and that I need to download the whole installer which I have now done. Do I need to uninstall the previous version or can I install over the top? Also is there somewhere on the FMC where I can check the version that i have for both sims? many thanks Daz My youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/c/Dkentflyer
July 13, 201510 yr Commercial Member Do I need to uninstall the previous version or can I install over the top? Whenever you download a full installer, it's usually best to uninstall the old version prior to installing the new version, just to be sure. Also is there somewhere on the FMC where I can check the version that i have for both sims? Yes, but it is only a formality. The Operations Center allows you to check all of them at the same time without having to fire up each sim individually. In addition, it will advise you of a new version if you're using an older version. Kyle Rodgers
July 13, 201510 yr Author Thankyou Kyle for the speedy reply, I will uninstall and then reinstall the new version. Must say that I am very impressed with the product and its so easy to install new liveries using the operations centre. Now just to learn how to fly it properly which I think will take me some time, been looking at some youtube videos and so much to learn, all part of the fun  My youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/c/Dkentflyer

Just for future reference, full names - first and last - are required to be in each post in our part of the forum. You can set this up to automatically happen in your user control panel if you'd like (click on your user name at the top right of the screen and go into your settings). If you prefer not to give that information, you can always reach out to us at the link in my signature! Kyle Rodgers

I learnt a lot from watching videos. In fact, by the time I bought the plane and run through the tutorials I knew my way around the flight deck pretty well. I would say try not to obsess too much over how they fly the bird. Some are "technically" not correct, others taken their way of flying from real airlines, but you need to find what works best for you. After all, you're not bound by an airlines way of flying. But, in terms of flows and how you go about working with the systems I've found watching videos very worth while. Same with how I managed to get on to Vatsim. Just watched lots of NGX videos where the user flew on Vatsim and learnt most of the skills from there Chris Smith
July 13, 201510 yr Author Hi Chris  I watched some but they all seem to whizz through things , can you give me any recommendations? My youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/c/Dkentflyer
July 13, 201510 yr Hi Chris  I watched some but they all seem to whizz through things , can you give me any recommendations? Fly the Tutorial #1, as many times as you need to. Read the Introduction, at least 90% of it is important. Browse the Boeing documents to see what's there and learn to find answers. But please try the Tutorial, much better than watching videos. July 14, 201510 yr I disagree slightly with run through tutorial 1 as many times as you need, since it's the bear minimums. Tutorial 2 takes you through from cold and dark upwards, that's the one I would focus on. Froogle's videos are generally pretty good. He's one of the best I find. They are a few years old now but that doesn't really matter. Just becareful when entering the murkey world of flight sim videos on YouTube...everyones an "expert" but that's rarely ever true. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7C10EDB3B9B9A51C He actually flies tutorial 1 and 2, however, he uses FS2Crew so you'll need to watch out for that. Matt Davies also has some good videos, though he doesn't explain things like Froogle does, but I have learnt an a great deal about flying the NGX from his videos. Both Matt and Froolge both have a knack of making engaging videos, which is more then some which can be a bit....wafferly? https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=matt+davies+ngx Chris Smith
July 14, 201510 yr Commercial Member Just be careful when entering the murkey world of flight sim videos on YouTube...everyones an "expert" but that's rarely ever true. This. Some of the time, it's just people passing SOPs off as "final," without realizing that SOPs vary widely. Other times, it's people wanting to share knowledge about stuff they just don't fully understand yet (think of your average private pilot in a scene where he or she doesn't realize more experienced/knowledgeable pilots are around). These groups are only slightly above the commenters who like to try to find fault in every action in the sim: "YOU DESCENDED BELOW THE MSA!!! YOU'RE BREAKING A REG!" What regs are you readin'...? Kyle Rodgers
