August 14, 200520 yr Much ado about nothing. Just the typical journalistic tendency to sensationalize the trivial.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. August 14, 200520 yr Agreed. Even the PA promptly changed their tune the following day, after significant doubt was cast that the name shown on the VA's website might well not have been the same person. The story was only carried by a handful of 'tabloid' press anyway.
August 14, 200520 yr I will say that I do not think that story will make microsoft quit development of MSFS. Nope. Nope. Nope.
August 14, 200520 yr The media are too inclined to make news up when there is little or none to misrepresent.A shame? More like lunacy. Perhaps we should gather up and burn all the flight manuals and instruction books.
August 14, 200520 yr Looks like the UK is taking this response thing a little more radically than the US did (which is saying a lot)... blocking sales of flight simulation software??Did you know terrorist breathe air? You don't breathe air too, do you?
August 14, 200520 yr hmm.. i must be a little dense as i couldn't locate this article, try as i might. However, from this thread i think i get the drift.I'm not a great fan of the uk 'tabloids' myself although 3 uses come to mind.1) good for pealing potatoes2) fish and chips taste better from them3) for all our sakes i will not elaborate upon :-(Dan
August 15, 200520 yr I was going to write more than this, but the more I wrote the angrier I got. I'll just say that most of what is written by the tabloids is obviously good for nothing - except maybe making thick people think they know what they're talking about. Makes my blood boil. Like even if this was true, and they stopped making all flight sims, terrorists couldn't find out how to fly if they wanted to. Stop now, Rich....
August 15, 200520 yr Hello All, Actually, I think it is high time that all of us, and I do mean all of us, not just simmers, but EVERYONE step up and be counted when it comes to the news. There was a time that the news was reported -- somewhat acurately, I might add, those were the likes of Walter Cronkite, and his peers who told it as it was, without colorizing it or trying to influence the news in any way. Yes, Virgina, those were the wonderful times we believed in Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny and all that was right and wholesome. Along came the Kennedy assignation -- and that was really the day that in the US we lost our innocence. That was the beginning of the end of truthful news.Every since that day, little by little the news room has been transfered from a holy shrine, where money, power and influence could not change the truth of the news, to making news divisions have to 'pay' for their keep, join in the ratings game and now are as much for entertainment as they are for information. And it sucks! Depending upon what you read, listen to or watch, one story can have five different motives, characters, and endings . . . Say it's not so, Joe . . .it's so! For me, finding a news station, to listen to, or watch which just 'tells it like it is' is most difficult to find. Either they tell too much, tainted in their owners direction, or they tell too little, fearing to offend someone -- my the news and information business sure has turned into a group of weasels! What can we do? Complain . . . not that I think it will do any good, but if enough of us do it, and threaten to go elsewhere, just maybe, they could tone it down just a tad and tell more of the truth and less of the BS. Will we be successful? Probably not . . .which forces you to watch ALL of the news from everywhere and then form your own opinion . . . hmmmm, perhaps that isn't a bad idea either, with the exception that we still aren't getting the real truth, just what we believe 'should' be the truth.Where am I going with this? Don't have a clue, just felt I had to speak my mind on reporting, reporters and the news media. I do know this, though . . . it sure would be nice to hear more of the 'real' news . . . even good stuff which they think doesn't sell . . .than all this 'created' news BS we get today . . . for some reason I don't think the actual 'news' was ever meant to be a commericial venture with ratings . . . so much for what I know.Best to all, and yes, I'm being idealistic!Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. August 15, 200520 yr Cronkite???http://www.aim.org/media_monitor/A371_0_2_0_C/http://www.aim.org/media_monitor/A377_0_2_0_C/Cronkite on Sovereignity:"When we finally come to our senses and establish a world executive and a parliament of nations, thanks to the Nuremberg precedent we will already have in place the fundamentals for the third branch of government, the judiciary."Sorry, but when you say Cronkite didn't try to influence, I have to disagree. August 15, 200520 yr hehehI can assure you the UK is not taking this more radically than the US did, however, let me tell you something about the "Metro" newspaper. It's a freebie they give to commuters, many of whom will have a "real" paper with them anyway, so to ensure a readership base they publish outrageous, downright stupid articles with punchy headlines to get people to read it (and then people on the train will read over their shoulders and they will want it too). They generally don't have much cash to produce intellegent, thought stimulating articles and their journalists aren't ... well paid (if you get my drift). The British tabloids are pretty extreme, I grant you, but the Metro is the tabloid of the tabloids, and generally is not used as a guideline for what's actually going on in London. My girlfriend often picks up a copy going to or from work and as such I have had the pleasure of skimming through the pages. On the up side, it is long, strong and *very* absorbant :-)Take care,Ian
August 15, 200520 yr Hi "Phanton" .... where did you hear about FS being banned? Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
