PMDG 777 SP1d on steam.....

Ok... really things are starting to get wacky...

On FSX Boxed... 777 was a dream... did tutorial 1 without a hitch....

Two weeks ago re-installed all osW7 and FSX-SE.

Then, Installed all my add-ons without a problem.

Until yesterday all was well...

Seemed to run out of memory just before descent in to Dubai..

I am using all the recommended software..

W7 64bit Pro

24 gigs of RAM

on a XEON 5670 hex

Affinity mask 62

SAMSUNG 1 Tera SHD

with 25000 mb virtual ram

the rest of my FSX.cfg a few tweaks but as I said.. All was running perfect and smooth.

Now, Cant save my flights without losing my settings......

My mouse disappears half of the time

In some views the buttons aren't grab-able...

So... Uninstall PMDG 777....

Erase files in FSX under steam

Re-install

Start FSX....

Message RAAS is out of date???????????????

Never came up before and as I said, using the latest SP1d.

Helppppp........

Will Charles.

Good morning Rob...

No. But the thing is that this was all working tip-top a few days ago.

Know I am getting a PMDG message when I try to load the 737 about running FSX as a manager...

same problem with my 737 now as well.....

Never had that happen..

Like I said, was a happy camper till two days ago...

I have a sneaky suspicion it has to do with steams auto updates....

I have no way of knowing what they are loading...

Im think about a complete re-install from scratch....

2 days work i think....

Thank you

Will

Don't reinstall when that almost certainly isn't the issue.

Referring to SP1d is a bit confusing as there was another update to the 777 after PMDG stopped applying SP numbers to updates. I assume that's what you mean but strictly speaking SP1d is no longer the latest version.

RAAS does not originate from PMDG and there is an update for it available on the FS2Crew website.

I dont know why you started having problems initially.

But you did write that you already reinstalled the PMDG777.

If you did that that with your virus scanner active, then I would do it again with the virus scanner not active.

If anything, just to rule it out!

If STEAM updates are the cause (I too hate auto updates that dont even allow me to create an image backup beforehand!) then you can try to update FSUIPC (if you are using it) to the latest version (supposed to be done after every STEAM update I read somewhere).

Its interesting but my 737 never had RAAS... My 777 did and when I started using steam, it stopped.

As far as the antivirus.... I use AVAST free version which has always been very dependable but the updates never interfered.

Step by step...

Installed 777 FSX STEAM.

All good...

Updated mi AIrac cycle through navgraph....

All good..

Started the Tutorial 1 which I have done once in the FSX boxed before installing steam...

All worked fine with mouse....no loss of mouse but yes loss of animation at certain zooms (Using - or =)

Got to just before T/D and FSX froze..... had to kill it (Very ######). Heh.... (I fly the whole thing and watch a movie while in between)

After that, Loaded it up again and noticed the mouse disappearing after two or three clicks on Overhead T7.

Also, toggle to spot view, no mouse.....

I have EZDOK so I thought it was the culprit.

I tried it with the A2A cessna in Friday Harbor after removing EZ.... Same problem.

I think something happened during that first flight before T/D

I also noticed the RAAS update request...

Did not know this was part of the T7.. finally updated it.

and finally, trying to load the 737, window popped up saying I need to run FSX in admin mode before 737 would load..?

Long story short, I've uninstalled all FSX related software and will try again.

I did notice that all my ORBX installs could not be uninstalled unless I removed STEAM...

That was surprising....

I am seriously waiting for P3D 64 bit...

This gets tiring..

Thanks for hearing my rants but simming is no longer fun with so many headaches....

Last note... I also think with P3D V3 coming out, everyone is trying to adapt and create new multi platform installers....

I used some.....who knows.

Wow... That would mean 2-3 times a day plus how many times (2-3) steam guard asks for a code.... geeezzzz

Come on p3d 64!!!!

Will, why wait for 64b?  The P3Dv3 biggest improvement is memory management that makes OOM errors unlikely unless you push hard for one. Dovetail is not investing in FSX, they are creating their own platform.

Steam updates don't change FSX-SE, so probably aren't the cause of your problems. I'm never asked for a code by steam so I don't know what you mean.

I don't think LM are in any hurry to develop a 64 bit version. Certainly flightsim enthusiasts would like it but such investment is likely to happen only if professional training users demand it. You might be in for a very long wait.

Dovetail weren't licensed by M$ to develop FSX, just to distribute a Steam version. They can bug-fix though and they fixed the memory handling issues (and therefore reduced OOMs just like P3Dv3) before it was released. The code is also re-optimised so it runs better on modern hardware. So they did spend a lot of time on FSX but as you say, their main focus now is their new flightsim platform.

I did not mean updates to the STEAM software itself ofcourse......I meant when STEAM decides to update FSX-SE (happened to me once since I installed FSX-SE a little while ago).

I think there was an option to cancel the FSX-SE update though.....no sure.

But anyway, after that, I read somewhere, that you should check and make sure you have the latest FSUIPC installed (not sure though how fast FSUIPC is updated if it needs adaption for the new FSX-SE version).

Yup. Dovetail will push out changes to the client application with no warning, notification or confirmation. They did it to XPlane too and all my saved situations were useless. I am just confirming the observation, I have given up complaining about Steam.

Fair enough. It's important to separate the frequent Steam updates from updates to applications than run on it. As you say, the last FSX-SE update did require a change to FSUIPC, so anything relying on that (PMDG addons don't) would need the new version. At least this shows Dovetail is working with developers these days, not pushing ahead by itself as it seemed to be to start with.

Dovetail have nothing to do with X Plane. Any updates to X Plane Steam "pushed" via Steam will come from Laminar Research and it should be essentially the same software as that that runs outside Steam.

10.42 is very recent from what I can see, it's possible the Steam version lags a little with the update cycle. Probably no bad thing if it doesn't push the numerous beta versions and release clients. I suspect 10.42r2 means 10.42 release client 2.

The point is you would have had the same problems you experienced with X-P Steam updates if you had updated the DVD version to the latest.

I'm on X-P yet myself. Next time it's on sale on Steam possibly....
