September 2, 200520 yr I know that the prevailing consensus of opinion is that the FPS slider should be set to some position dependent on what "power" your computer system has. This makes logical sense - right? Why else would MS put it into the Sim. BUT -- when I set my slider to unlimited , I really can't see any difference in the eye candy dept and maybe - just maybe- the sim seems smoother. When I get close to a busy airport, my machine gets the pauses anyway I seem to set the slider. What do you all experience with this. Barry
September 2, 200520 yr I use active camera and they recommend setting the FPS to 25 max. I had mine higher but had problems with Active Camera, so I leave mine at 25 and have consitent FPS around 24.8.The sim runs smooth on my machine at this frame rate.It really depends on your system. So there is no exact answers to your question. It really involves trial and error. Some people run MSFS fine with unlimited FPS, others have problems with that setting. If you do get some pauses, unlimited FPS can sometimes be the cause. In this case try limiting the FPS to something other than "unlimited."Scott :-)ATP/CFII/DA20 Type Rated - Instructor Pilot - USAFA (KAFF), Colorado Springs, CO & at KCOSAOPA #00956593, since 1987Background in Corporate, Airline, and General AviationB.S. This makes logical sense ->right? Why else would MS put it into the Sim. The answer is self-evident. MS has provided "sliders" for many variable options, so the USER can "tune" FS to his/her own system. There is no "one size fits all" answer to the question. It's frankly pointless to even "debate" the merits of one setting over another... ;)I have two identical computers I use for flightsim, and both require slightly different settings in FS to achieve the same relative performance! ;) Fr. If you run FS with the slider unlimited with UT, you'll soon start noticing that the more detailed terrain down below has to 'catch up' as you pan around the cockpit (i.e. you get the dark square patches of terrain appearing for a second or two as you look out of the side window). With the slider set at unlimited the only benefits you'll get are when you're at a high altitude or panning down to look at the VC controls for example, whereby you'll get FPS of over 60 or so with a good PC. So at the end of the day I'd say it depends on how detailed your ground scenery is. If you simply run FS with the default landclass (which is pretty poor may I add and could have been done a lot better by MS) then you can have your FPS slider at unlimited 'til your heart's content, but if you want to view decent scenery down below with a package such as UT then you'll no doubt see the benefits of the FPS slider like I say. I found absolutely no relation between the way textures "catch up" and how my FPS slider is set up. Clearly there is more into it.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg Michael J.
