Thanks a lot. >Tom>The Shockwave Mustang is regarded by many people in the same leage as the RealAir Spit. Personally I don't think so, but I am very particular about the cockpit. The RealAir pit is unbeaten, although the Shockwave Mustang is much better than average. When it comes to handling, it is a bit annoying that it's almost impossible to bleed off enough speed to get a nice landing in the Shockwave P51, but they say it's how it is in real life ...For some reason Aeroplaneheavens fighters are really fun to fly, but they don't have a P51. You should try the new P47 though :) Have anyone tried this one yet?:http://www.skyunlimited.net/mustangs.htmI'm a bit curious, but I just don't need another ww2 fighter (unless it's very good)Have fun!

** hands down. Hawk

I prefer the CWDT model available from Simmarket, but it's all down to personal preference, really. Ian P.

The RealAir pit is>unbeaten, although the Shockwave Mustang is much better than>average.>Same thoughts here. The P-51D has been my favorite aircraft of all time, at least for the last 45 years, when my grandmother bought me one of those Monogram see-thru models. I've also had the privelage to ride in a 1944 model, including some aerobatic type manuvers. However, IMO, the RealAir Spit is the most fun "hand flying" simulated aircraft, that I've ever owned, in terms of handling, landings, sound, and subtle movements of the airframe; and the Shockwave just isn't quite there, in terms of these same "feelings".L.Adamson

The ** http://www.shockwaveproductions.com/store/ one and the CWDT http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/tcwdt/p51d.html one are the best of the best and either will be a good choice. I compared lots of images and features of both and got the ** version (liked the nose better) and love it!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

Thanks a lot guys. I'll go with the shockwave...RegardsTom

Michael, I see that the freeware offerings are not getting much airtime here. Have you tried the Roger Dial/Steve Small and the Shigeru Tanaka versions? These are the two I fly ... how do they compare with the ** version, if you've tried them?MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Hey Mark, yep, tried both. the Dial version is really nice, used to fly it alot when it came out, but no VC (a must for me) and there was just something odd about the Tanaka version, but it was nicely done.Since flying most aircraft in FS is easy for me on realistic settings, it's refreshing to find one that is a handful, and the ** one is a challenge, but lots of fun. I've never flown one in real life so no clue if it is realistic.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

The banners, flags, signs and stars that appear when you shut down Shigeru's aircraft really bug me, unfortunately. They're nice aircraft, certainly, but not one I'll ever use.The Dial/Small aircraft I would recommend getting regardless of whether you get one with guns fitted or not. It is, however, a racing Mustang and not a military one. Doesn't half climb quick without guns, rockets and bombs though... :-hahAnother option, although seriously getting on in age and possibly not fully FS2004 compatible (I haven't tried) is the Flight1 "Double Trouble" P51D/FW190 pack that the racing aircraft is a simplified version of.Last but by no stretch of the imagination least, don't write off the earlier Mustangs - the Apache / P51A/B/C (Mustang I, II, III) pack I'm spending too much time with at the moment is also superb fun and well worth a look! :-)Cheers,Ian P.

HelloI have the ** Mustang and the Alphasim Mustang, while the ** version is more detailed i have more fun flying around in the Alphasim plane.Have a look at the alphasim P51D. it is only $16.00

>Hello >>Which is the best Mustang payware or freeware according to >these criteria: >- exterior model>- sound>- accurate FDE>>I'm lost and help is much appreciated. Thanks a lot. >Tom>I just bought the Shockwave P-51 and I also have flown on a TF-51D Mustang (See post above). In normal flight the aircraft behaves very well, and close to the same performance compared to my video of my flight! However it is too easy to spin the aircraft in a stall. On the real Mustang, the aircraft recovers very well in the stall. (If it didn't I'd be dead now) The ** one falls into a spin almost all the time. Once in the spin it is almost impossible to get out of it, unless you are above 10K, this I believe is modelled correctly, in the mustang. As all I have read says the Mustang isn't that forgiving once in a spin. Also it seems in the climb to the stall it seems the aircraft loses speed too quickly. It seems in the real plane you have more time before the stall, and it's possible to maneuver the aircraft with the rudder in the middle of the buffet. On the ** you reach stall speed much quicker and the buffet is too short before the actual stall to be able to replicate this manuever. Also I find it hard to do wing over manuevers without it slipping into a spin. This does not happen on the real plane (At least not as easily). The sound is pretty accurate, although, I don't remember the mechanical sound when flaps are lowered, like in this one. Atleast it's not as noticable. I'm trying to break up my video of the TF-51D in segments on the different manuevers performed. (Stall, Wing Over, Barrel Roll, Loop, Landing) Once I do that I'll see if I can find a place to post them. (probably Rapidshare at this point due to the size there likely to be).Tom

Thanks

Update: Just found the 1.1 patch and it did make a difference. Stalls are still too fast and will get you in a spin, but recovery is much easier now. Just push the stick forward, add right rudder and it recovers. Not sure how realistic this is, as everything I have read indicates, once in a spin, it's not easy to get out off. The trick is not to put the aircraft in that position in the first place. I guess this is just a limitation in FS we'll have to accept. For FS it does quite well. Wing Overs are now possible, but you have to watch the back pressure. In the real plane, I was told by the instructor (Lee Lauderbach)to use quite a bit of back pressure. In the ** too much will stall and spin the aircraft. Same problem in Loops, (Which wasn't there in Ver 1.0) This may just be a matter though of adjusting sensitivities and Null zones so the jury is still out on this one. All in all for FS this is a very good rendition of the P-51D, it does seem to have most of the flight envelope down pretty well. It brings back great memories when I was in the back seat flying this great airplane. After 9/11 though he probably couldn't do half the things he used to be able to do, as he was able to access the Avon tactical range when the military wasn't using it to do both aerobatic and ACM manuevers both high and low level. I doubt they let him use it now!! Sad!!:-(

Thanks
