September 6, 200520 yr What do you guys use:Flight Sim Manager or Flight Sim Autostart?I haev been using the Autostart for about a year now and have liked it (unless FS crashes, then I don't like it much) But, recently I've been messing with FLight Sim Manager and I'm digging the voice command stuff. Is there anyway you can combine the 2 app's? I'd like to be able to kill all the extra stuff thats running when I start FS9, but I also like the extra things FSM can do.What do you all use?Dondo
September 6, 200520 yr hi Dondo...i started using FSA until I discovered FSM. I went back to FSA, not from dissatisfaction with FSM, but just because I like how it will shut down processes and programs. It does take longer to load as it goes thru its routines, but I just consider that part of my pre-flight...:-)otherwise, they are both terrific products. I still use FSM for some of its other utilities.Sherm

September 6, 200520 yr I wonder how much help does fsautostart provide in improving fs2004? When idle and doing nothing, my cpu load shown 2-3%. Even fsautostart can cut it down to 0%, does it mean that the most I can get is 2-3% improvement on my fps, so I'll be getting 24+3% = 24.72 fps instead of 24 fps? What's the big deal then? Thanks for any comment. -mike-
September 6, 200520 yr I read somewhere on a computing forum that you can increase gaming performace by turning of the hyper-threading function on PIV processors.I dont understand...I thought HT contributed to more performance? Is this a computing urban-myth or is it for real lol
September 6, 200520 yr It looks like it's one of those "maybe" things. On my machine, FS9 runs better with HT disabled. Some folks say leave it on, some say turn it off, and some say it doesn't make any difference. But on most machines, I think that any game which does not utilize HT, like FS9, will probably perform better with HT turned off. The only way for you to know for sure is turn it off on your machine and see what happens.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. September 7, 200520 yr There is a hyperthread enable/disable option which is set in the BIOS. On most machines pressing the Del key prior to Windows loading will give you access to the BIOS menu(s). (Note, though, that on some Dell machines they have blocked all access to the BIOS and in those cases nothing can be done.)Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. September 7, 200520 yr I use both and they seem to be synergic. I divided my aircraft into fleets with FSM, applied tweaks and deactivate most to conserve resources more. You can even zip up aircraft and get them back later in secends. Everything I set with FSM is there with Autostart or just the plain ol' MSFS icon doubleclick. Both will try to optimise your RAM, but there is more control seemingly with FSM.(exactly what % of resources to recover, texture transfer speed etc... FSautostart gives me the added benefit of shutting down other programs, and if you run ASV or somethinbg you can start it automatically. But you don't have to choose between them IMHO.Best Regards, Donny
