BEV price point - old news but

Featured Replies

Old news now I guess, but anyone who wants 4 season/multi continent coverage with BEV will need deeper pockets than mine. $12 ($16 Australian dollars) per "volume" seems cheap until you do the maths - would come to over $200 and counting. This hobby of ours is just getting out of hand when it comes to the costs of addons. I know i have spent hundreds of dollars already (hope my wife doesn't read this) not sure I can justify much more no matter how good the product is. Bruceb

Oh I don't know. Think of all the other things we waste our money on. I've often regretted buying a book or DVD or whatever, but rarely have I had the same feeling with a payware addon. Of course it is pretty steep if you want all regions and seasons, but I'm not sure if you'd really need all of them. I might be quite tempted by the Europe set when it comes out. But we'll have to wait and see if it lives up to the billing..By the way, where on earth did this price 'point' nonsense come from? What's wrong with just price??? I suppose it's another case of why use one word when two or more will do..:-)IanPS Bruce, I won't ask if you're a cricket fan.. }(

Same old argument, same old answer. "We'll see" - or to be more precise: "THEY'LL see".If BEV is found in the bargain bucket in less than six months you'll be right. But the price is irrelevant, up to a point. If the product delivers sufficient marginal extra satisfaction to justify its price point, whether you can afford it or not will not matter to the developers. Only to you. I'm interested, even though I have FScene, because it seems from what I've seen so far the BEV developers have dealt with several of my key remaining problems with Flight Sim.Allcott

"Same old argument, same old answer."Same old weary cynicism.RegardsIan

I think the flightsim hobby is one of the cheapest hobbies going. Once you've got your hardware, the amount you have to shell out on software is relatively small and the cost/enjoyment ratio is excellent. I've been into photography, sound recording/playing electric guitars/performing, flying for real and all these are much more expensive.....Ian"...By the way, where on earth did this price 'point' nonsense come from? Oh the cricket, I was up to 2:30 AM watching the last rights. The poms deserve their time in the sun it's been a long time coming although there was that Rugby World Cup win last year. Anyhow the outcome will be good for the game and looking forward to the Ashes tour here in two years time. Anyway back to the main point if simmers are happy to pay what is being asked for BEV then good luck to the developers as it does appear to be quite innovative even if very expensive compared to other types of addons (but then all scenery addons cost an arm and a leg).Bruceb

BruceOur boys are doing their lap of honour up the road in Trafalgar Square as I type - wish I could get out of the office! All I can see or hear are the helicopters..Oh, and you won't get 'em back that easily.. ;-) Ian (Pom)

"By the way, where on earth did this price 'point' nonsense come from? What's wrong with just price??? I suppose it's another case of why use one word when two or more will do.."I think it came from studies of what effect a range of prices will have on consumer behaviour, production costs, etc. You end up with a range of prices often represented graphically and you pick a "point" on the graph that maximizes value for the company. Thus the expression "price point." :-)billg

I cant see much difference between the cost of a whole continent in fsscene or BEV (around $44 to 48 USD). In fact with BEV you get the added bonus of an extra 'hard winter' package. Having seen the screenshots i cant wait for the official release date.CheersDan

There's nothing that says you have to get every season for every continent. I fly mostly in the summer, and mostly in the US. I could get by with just with Vol I at $12 for most of my use if I wanted. Of course everyone's preferences will vary. That's something great about the BEV packages. You can pick and choose what you want. You get the 5th volume free no matter what volumes you are purchasing.Tony [http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]BEVBetaSig.jpg[/url]

I do pay design for another game and we get our fair share of people saying we should give it away or lower prices...I ignore them as they are either clueless as to what is involved or just freeloaders. Point is, if you want it, get it, if you don't, there are alternatives or you can do it yourself. On the pricing based on the seasons, I fly in real time all the time and most I know in my VA and others do as well, so having all seasons in mandatory. If anything, the none realism people are getting a good deal.Seems like a great product (especially the autogen). I need to go look at the shots some more before I decide. UT is uninstalled and I hope there are some before and after that have just default and then BEV to see the difference.Either way, best of luck with the addon guys!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

>"Same old argument, same old answer.">>Same old weary cynicism.>>Regards>IanNot cynicism. Pragmatism. And it's only `weary` if you take the use of `old` too personally. Guess you're no whippersnapper eh, Ian? Thing is, the speculation will only be satisfactorily answered in time - and income, of course. :-)And will those that can afford it, or `need` to afford it, care one fig about those that can't, or don't? Nope. That's one of the beauties of FS as a hobby - no personal guilt about NOT sharing because: "Piracy is a Crime, Do Not Accept It! LOL!Allcott

>Oh, and you won't get 'em back that easily.. ;-)Even when Australia wins the Ashes - as we have for the last sixteen consecutive years - Poms don't hand them over. Poms should take a lesson from the New York Yacht Club who both promptly and graciously surrendered the Americas Cup when we won that. As for the appalling unpiring ... wait until Billy Bowden gets back home. He'll probably have his Citizenship revoked :-).....http://www.fsd-international.com/team/Steve_signature.gif

>And will those that can afford it, or `need` to afford it,>care one fig about those that can't, or don't? Nope. Please! The way i fly i am quite happy with one season for one area, e.g the whole US, and that will cost me around seven pounds or twelve dollars. If anyone cannot afford that toward their hobby i seriously suggest they cut down on the pies or beers whatever for a day. Seven pounds in the UK wont even get me a small pizza delivered to my door, never mind the garlic bread, drink etc..When developers start driving around in limited edition Ferraris then i might reconsider :-lol Dan
