PcPartPicker - Legitimate?

Featured Replies

Hi lads,

I wish to purchase a new PC and put one together on pcpartpicker

My question is - are these suggested sites that they give for the components legitimate?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg,

Very much so, I used pcpartpicker to build my system last month.  I think one of the most valuable features is that it calculates wattage required based on the components selected and then it also finds any potential component compatibility issues.

Yes, definitely.

I guess you know Amazon, I have also purchased things from Mindfactory and I have heard only good things from Caseking. You should be fine

Cheers lads thanks for the replies.

I'm trying to build a PC for prodominantly FSX with a few addons but GTA as well and I know that FSX is very CPU heavy while GTA 5 is GPU heavy.

I have built one here - what do ye think?

Looks decent. Certainly enough for FSX. GTA V may give you some hiccups if you try to crank up the settings.

My only recommendations would be to go with 16GB of RAM, and if you can afford it, bump the CPU up to a i7-4790K.

Also, be aware that with the 970 you will only have 3.5GB of Vram available instead of the advertised 4GB. I learned of this just after purchasing and installing 2 in SLI.

I would recommend getting a CPU cooler for overclocking, as the standard one isn't the best.

If you can afford one, an SSD would be great. Then as Matt said, more RAM and an 4790K would be very nice, but that build should already do well.

You will get 60fps in GTA V on High settings @1080p. There are plenty of benchmark videos on youtube, if you want to make sure.

Edit: I'm not sure if this is allowed, kinda new here, but I would recommend checking out http://reddit.com/r/buildapc

You will probably get more reliable answers there (make sure to read the rules first).

Why do you think he would get better answers on reddit???

There are some very experienced people here.

Very experienced in flightsim, definitely.

Very experienced in building a pc, some, definitely.

But that subreddit is specifically for building PC's, so you will only find people that know about that stuff. I don't see why it should hurt checking it out, when I built a PC, I looked at every site I could find, cause it's a huge investment (for some).

(As a side note, the triple question mark makes it look like an offense [at least to me])

By all means check out Reddit.

But there are enthusiasts here that have been building custom PC's for years [like me]. Some very knowledgeable people like "Westman" for example. So, more reliable answers no. More answers maybe.

(As a side note, the triple question mark makes it look like an offense [at least to me])

Then you are over-sensitive, or feel the need to attack because you have received critique.

No offence, but it does seem a little unfair for a new member to deride us that way. By stating that someone will receive  more reliable answers elsewhere, you are implying that the replies here are unreliable.

But I'm sure you didn't mean to, just could have been more tactful perhaps...

I know that you didn't mean it as an offense, but it makes it look like one. Adding more question marks makes a question go from "I actually want to know the answer" to "I think you are wrong with your statement" and I think that is a pretty universal opinion, but I added the "at least to me", because I wasn't 100% sure and I don't want to speak for others.

Another point: I'm not sure what you mean with "deride". Checking out reddit was a sincere suggestion, and I made it because I thought it would help the OP in making a better decision. The sole reason of it was to help him. Anyway, I don't think I derode anyone, if I did I guess we are BOTH over-sensitive. also I don't think the fact that I'm a new member plays a role in this.

I'm gonna stop replying to you in this thread in fear of getting banned for trolling or whatsoever.

I hope that you can understand my point of view!

Have a nice day, and to GregC, sorry for having this conversation in your thread.

Adding more question marks makes a question go from "I actually want to know the answer" to "I think you are wrong with your statement"

Nope... it goes from I "wouldn't  mind" knowing to I "really want" to know. It's called emphasis. And you are wrong with your statement, replies here are not unreliable, as you implied.

I'm not sure what you mean with "deride". Checking out reddit was a sincere suggestion

I'm sure it was a sincere suggestion. But you claimed the OP would get "more reliable" answers elsewhere. Thus implying the replies here would be unreliable. To imply we are unreliable is to deride us. I was pretty sure it was just a grammatical hiccup and you didn't really mean to imply such a thing, so asked. I didn't expect a counter attack based on something as mundane as "too many question marks" though. I simply asked a question and you responded badly.

I hope that you can understand my point of view!

The English language is the English language. The definition of reliable is freely available, as is the definition of unreliable.

As for the subreddit you linked to... much like here, some experienced opinions and some not so experienced. Certainly not more reliable responses.
