January 28, 201610 yr Hi Could I ask some advice please Using the B747-4 Ifly with Fs2004 I find when I descend using VS after GS Capture the VS window clears and I cannot set a VS setting for final approach/landing, please could you advise should I be performing any other tasks to attain a landing VS. Many Thanks Richard Richard Coombs
January 28, 201610 yr If I understand you correctly, you have captured the glideslope, and the autopilot should be set to APR, not VS. You manage speed, and the autopilot will follow the glideslope down. Bert
January 28, 201610 yr Author Thanks Bert, I understood that if your on the intercept heading and you have used VS down to this point, that following LOC & GS Capture it was still possible to re-set a further -VS to take you down to the runway just confused whether real world B747-400 pilots use -VS or can use -VS past GS Capture. I remember a PMDG Training DVD where it said descend to 2000ft set the VS window to 0000 then on glideslope capture roll the window down to perhaps -VS 600 VS -700 whichever applicable and it was possible to land in this form, but must admit that never seemed to work either, so I just wanted to know what in the real world would a B747-4 pilot be able to choose from in this latter stage. Many Thanks again Richard Richard Coombs
January 29, 201610 yr Thanks Bert, I understood that if your on the intercept heading and you have used VS down to this point, that following LOC & GS Capture it was still possible to re-set a further -VS Many Thanks again Richard If you have captured the GS you should allow the A/P to fly the vertical guidance that the GS will supply to the AP. I would suggest you try some of the training lessons in FS9 which detail how to fly an ILS approach. Peter Schluter
January 29, 201610 yr VS should not be used on a precision approach such as an ILS. If you are doing a LOC/VOR/NDB approach you can use VS to descend to the MDA. When using an ILS, you select APR mode and that tells the autopilot to follow the glideslope down to the runway. Nick Hatchel "Sometimes, flying feels too godlike to be attained by man.
