Nope, folder doesn't exist.

 

Its really puzzling. The folders and files are simply not being created. Yet uninstall programs believes there is 39mb of something on the drive.......

About to give up on using FLIGHT. After doing a clean windows 10 install, Steam is asking me for a serial number I don't have, and GFWL marketplace will not connect. (Its dead, JIM!)

Did you purchase thru Steam?  if not i have no idea why you would get that message.

also if not I would suggest you follow the directions here by KavindaJD to re install Flight and your previously purchased addons directly from MS not from Steam. Pay special attention to the 'latest GFWL' link this is important.

I hope you can get this working with the least amount of frustration possible but this really sounds more like an issue with your permissions than with Flight or the toolkit.

The only problem is that to test that exact possibility, I did a clean windows 10 install on a laptop and again tried to download flight from the link listed here. I got the exact same error. I was also unable to retrieve my purchase history (and serial) from the GFWL marketplace, which has apparently now been completely shut down even for those simply seeking to redownload their own purchased dlc.

You should be able to download any purchased DLC through the Addon Manager, once you manage to get the toolkit installed.

@HiFlyer: Make sure that you do the following, prior to installing the Toolkit.

 

1.

    - Go to your C: folder

    - Make sure that hidden files and folders can be viewed ==> follow this, if not already.

    - Then go to ProgramData and right click PackageCache and open Properties
    - Go to Security tab and edit Permissions to allow Full control

 

2. Install the following:

• DirectX
• and vcredist.exe (as Steve mentioned earlier) - make sure it is x86

HiFlyer: Those look like the wrong logs.  Can you uninstall, then remove all the logs from the temp folder, reinstall, and then post both logs.  The most important one will be fairly long and you may not be able to post it here as text.

 

Even if GFWL marketplace won't let you download DLC anymore you should still be able to download it through the toolkit as Kavinda says.  The main issue is that multiplayer may not work.  I would also avoid using Steam.  I think I saved all the cabs for the Flight install locally so it the installer is failing to download them, I probably have a backup.

 

Also, did you try my suggestion of installing vcredist manually?  You may also need to install the dxredist.  I would also make sure that for some reason it is not installing to some custom install path by manually setting it to something specific.

Tried all suggestions and a few other thingies as well!

Still don't think you are including the correct log. Try this one: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\Flight_Toolkit_20160306211244_0_FlightToolkitSetup.msi.log

 

It should have FlightToolkitSetup.msi.log in the name.

 

Edit: I wonder if your machine got into some weird state. You could try getting the "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" and running that to see if there is some regkeys or other installation info that is not getting cleaned up for some reason.

The cleanup utility does not see the Flight toolkit as being installed at all.
