March 18, 201610 yr Hello All I operate Windows 7 professional, with all updates. My desktop is an Aero theme. My operating system is on drive C, my P3Dv3.0 on drive F, and I have a backup, drive B, for P3D. I recently installed FSX Gold on drive B into a folder labeled "FSX". The only other files on drive B are the two files resulting from a Shadow Protect backup of the entire F drive. P3Dv3 operates fine. FSX launches OK, but when I launch the default flight, a warning pops up that says I have launched a program that is incompatible with an aero theme; that Windows will temporarily change to the windows default, and revert to Aero when the program closes. FSX then hangs, and then closes, with the following event report: Problem Signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: fsx.exe Application Version: 10.0.61637.0 Application Timestamp: 46fadb14 Fault Module Name: g2d.dll Fault Module Version: 10.0.61637.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 46fadb58 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0002c33d OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional information about the problem: LCID: 1033 The same crash happens if I change my desktop to the Windows default before launching the FSX default flight, except that no "incompatible with aero" message shows up. it's been a few years since I ran FSX (miss some of the old goodies) and ask if anyone has any suggestions on a fix, or if I need to gather more information about the crash. Thanks a bunch. Forever indebted to the late Michael Greenblatt of FSGS.
March 18, 201610 yr but when I launch the default flight, a warning pops up that says I have launched a program that is incompatible with an aero theme; that Windows will temporarily change to the windows default, and revert to Aero when the program closes. FSX then hangs, and then closes, with the following event report: This is normal. Happens with every installation of FSX. You cannot run FSX with Aero turned on as it is incompatible so Aero (which is part of the Windows OS) shuts down. When you finish with FSX, Aero will turn back on. Here's a link to further discussions regarding Aero as some force Aero to stay on as vsync won't work with it off - http://www.avsim.com/topic/443500-will-aero-affect-performance/(life is complicated...) Okay, let's check out your crash. The faulting module is the g2d.dll. Here's what the AVSIM CTD Guide says about that (this data was collected from various places around the Internet): G2D.dll - The g2d.dll is indicated as the faulting module in the crash report. This module handles plain text messages, like the frame rate counter and those other plain text messages you see periodically while running FSX and the plain text words in the FSX Menu, like the words Options, View, etc. There may be something corrupted in your dll.xml which loads menu items. It has been fixed by rebuilding the FSX.cfg (deleting or renaming the FSX.cfg and then restarting FSX). Some others have fixed this problem by uninstalling/reinstalling the video card drivers or going back to a previous version. Hope this helps.
