November 11, 20169 yr Starting to play VHF radio emulation for PilotEdge now. We avoided it for years because the version of the sound library we used didn't allow convenient post-processing of the audio. Now that we've moved to a newer version of the library (a while ago, admittedly), I'm looking closely at this. I found some open source DSP code and was able to apply high and low pass filters, but there was a buzz in the resulting audio of which I'm not a fan. I'll keep working it i am awaiting patiently the time when the radios sound like radios. Great news to know this is coming! Manuel Merelles
November 12, 20169 yr Author This opens up several hundred non-towered airports, too, where you can depart on the CTAF, pick up advisories, fly around pretty much anywhere you want within the expanded area, then terminate your service just prior to swapping to CTAF at the next non-towered airport. This is going to be fantastic. Having grown up in SLC I can't wait to depart KSLC and fly to other parts of the state - the large majority of which are non-towered - with advisories along the way. What a HUGE addition the expansion is going to be. Will be nice to have the options for the radios to sound like VHF as well. Keep up the great work. November 12, 20169 yr Only been simming 2 and a half years, got into Vatsim 3 months ago and have been signed up to PE for 2 weeks now. I have learned more on pilot edge in 2 weeks than I have in 2.5 years. I am working my way through Keiths workshops on youtube and have completed the CAT 3 VFR courses so still a long way to go. Everyday I'm listening to the recorded ATC audio on the site which is awesome to listen back to analyse how I sound. I've also developed this really weird obsession studying the LAX chart on sky vector, looking at the airspace and plotting routes around the area regards Class B, C, D airspace. I'm totally hooked! I do love to fly a tubeliner but its been a blast flying my Cessna and Turbine Duke around the area so far. I cant wait for the expansion so I can hop into my A320 and 737. Special mention to the controllers as well absolutely first class. I also think the crystal clear audio is one of the benefits, much better than the garbled noises on vatsim which actually dont help beginners whatsoever because you cant hear the controllers that well. On PE edge everything is very clear, once you get used to the speed of transmissions it starts to get a lot easier. Keep up the great work Keith, you got my 20 bucks every month for sure.
