Airport Information while flying

Featured Replies

I was just wondering if anyone knows of an addon application (preferably freeware) that allows one to query Navigation / ATIS information about airports while still viewing and not pausing the flight, without having to call up the FS9 Map view as this blanks the sim?I thought I had seen something at sometime but cannot recall where.Regards,Stuart Hyett

There've been various kneeboard modifications, Stuart, that will allow this ... maybe hunt on 'kneeboard' around the libraries? If you are an online flyer, you might consider using FSInn (www.mcdu.com) which allows you to pick up METAR information from destination airports while you are flying with no interruption. You don't have to be flying with anyone else, you can just log into a server. Clearly it's best if you're on cable or DST if you don't want the wife to throw a wobbly about you tying up the 'phone line!Doesn't Servinfo give this information too? A Servinfo window can be configured in the cockpit, but I don't know about the facilities, I don't use it enough.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Thanks for the reply.I don't always fly online (VATSIM) and don't always have charts available and just need to know various frequencies (ILS, VOR, NDB etc.), rwys, ATC Freq. etc.Have been browsing Avsim and have found this gauge:talal_s_map30.zipwhich looks as though it could provide just what I'm after.Has anyone else tried this, and has an opinion, or is there anything else that perhaps just provides the above information in text form?Regards,Stuart

I've found "Virtual Pilot Network" (vpn14us.zip in AVSIM file library) good for this. This was the first app to use the FS9 kneeboard as a web browser, and in my view still the best. Some of the links are outdated now, but you can add to or edit them with a simple text editor.

The Garmins should have this in their information access page. I use the Reality-XP Apollo, quite simpler, and I can get info (other than weather) there for comm and navaids on the display screen as well as runway info regarding length, surface, bearing, and elevation. It will not tell you (like ATIS) the active runway but the frequency is there.I have not used the Garmins but I believe if you highlight the waypoint/destination in the list and click the right page button you'll getwhat you are looking for, as Barry posts.

>What's wrong with using the default GPS?>The forbidden "d" word - so it's already there, it works and it references the basic FS 2004 world. Way too simple for some - but I wholly agree with you!Best wishes,Michael:-lol

good point indeed Barry, if only folks spent a few minutes to understand the depth of this single gauge and the wonderful data base it is - ah, we can only dreamsome of the best reading in the manual me thinks.
