FS 2006 preview?

Featured Replies

So I wander over to the Microsoft Flight Simulator web site and they have a nice link over to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner web site. I am wondering if the pictures there are a sneaky preview of the next Microsoft Flight Sim. I hope so.Example: http://assets.newairplane.com/en-US/desktop1_Large.jpgMaybe this has been discussed before, and maybe I am just dreaming. Just let me dream for a little while before you tell me I am nuts.-Shawn

I highly doubt it.

yea, lets just imagine that would be it. look at the clouds!!!on the other hand, look right its says "© Boing Company" - so its just a stupid picture owned by Boeing...:(

Remember what an awesome upgrade FS2002 was? I think we are in for another happy surprise, and I can't wait to see what they have come up with. They have worked for a few years on this and I bet those pics are it(or close to it). You guys know the excitement that is generated when the first preview pics are released. I say the only way to generate that excitement now is by achieving what is portrayed in those pics. Anything less will be a yawner. And you know the last few versions have not been yawners. Until the truth is known, I have full faith that they will exceed almost everyone's expectations again.Still Dreaming,Shawn

I had the impression that they just started hiring people for FS10 or whatever it will be named. I find it hard to believe they have been working on flightsimulator since they finished FS9. OHN

But the last few versions really have been yawners. They cut corners to save money, and have basically just done touch ups on an old and outdated engine, causing us to spend thousands of dollars on nice hardware just to run the game sort of smoothly

Shawn, you

These yawners have caused you to post here 1519 times. Nobody here would ever go back to FS2000. Serious progress has been made, and will continue to be made. I will never take FS for granted.Hail Bill Gates.

This excerpt from the October 7th "Workin' for a Living" Blog entry of the Lead Program Manager of the Flight Sim team at Microsoft..."One last thing I want to do is clear up some confusion about whether people work on multiple projects when they're not working on FS. Apparently there are those who think when we ship a version of Flight Sim we go off and work on Excel or something. Eek! Could you imagine the chaos that would create? Yes, in theory we're all capable of moving between teams but that's usually only when we decide we're ready for something new. No, the FS team is fairly static. When we ship one version we move on to the next. There are times when a few of us might switch between projects within the studio (for example the test team used to alternate between FS and CFS because they shipped in alternating years) but for the most part we strive to keep the teams intact. And that holds true for Microsoft in general.".. the Blog site is at "http://blogs.msdn.com/tdragger/default.aspx" and makes very interesting reading.Lindsay

and half of those posts are asking for help trying to figure out why the game is crashing, running slow, add-on aircraft questions because the defaults are so bland, add-on scenery questions because every default airport is boring, etc.I never said progress isn't made, but it is the same thing with sports games, they repackage the same graphics engine but add new rosters and a few flashy things and sell it for the same price the next yearI wouldn't hail a crook.

I think if we really put our heads together we can answer the question "is it a game or a simulator?"Just kidding. Please, lets not try to answer that one.I never would have thought even just 2 years ago that I would have my real world pilots license, much less taking my IFR check ride in a few weeks. Flight sim has changed my entire life, so I need to give credit to Bill: Thanks man. And when I say Bill, I mean the whole FS Team.-ShawnP.S. IFR training is fantastic for me on the sim with real approach plates and enroute charts. And that friggin' Flight1 ATR, AWESOME! I can't wait for the next version of FS. Its going to rock!

it's not that it's so bad, which it isn't. it's that is could be so much better and I wouldn't be so broke spending money to upgrade what should have come default

That isn't the case, of course! ;)

Why would it take 3-4 years, its not like they are building a completely new sim from scratch. We have a good sim so why build a new one, there are plenty of things that can be added to this one.OHN
