May 10, 201610 yr I have been looking for a solution to this problem for weeks, and have talked to two other users that use My Traffic 6 and none of us see any Contrails for AI aircraft. The aircraft in the MT6 folder have the proper entries in each of their cfg files. Here is a cut and paste of one of them [EFFECTS] wake=fx_wake water=fx_spray dirt=fx_tchdrt concrete=fx_sparks //(Disabled by FSFX_PFX_Effect)touchdown=fx_tchdwn, 1 touchdown = fsfx_PFX_5451754250764F397544796D3272546754336958544C5A414562734555613368 //FSFX_PFX_Effect contrail = fsfx_PFX_3263496B6372304972726C58476F30724A6E6642493438546C5369687130724B //FSFX_PFX_Effect vaportrail_l = fsfx_PFX_34674C5337767A6562726E38486D6958794975646E594E357576646268717151 //FSFX_PFX_Effect vaportrail_r = fsfx_PFX_34674C5337767A6562726E38486D6958794975646E594E357576646268717151 //FSFX_PFX_Effect SnowEngineWash = fsfx_PFX_3263496B6372304972726D3730684D4C74476972496C62414973497447333165 //FSFX_PFX_Effect WetEngineWash = fsfx_PFX_3263496B6372304972726B7A6C552B3438463674612F5544396C754D5A516C55 //FSFX_PFX_Effect WheelSnowSpray = fsfx_PFX_77755038474E6775336E5979767345506C38564553346F68304B333832395476 //FSFX_PFX_Effect WheelWetSpray = fsfx_PFX_77755038474E6775336E61444251543245683042306545366578725A326A6E6A //FSFX_PFX_Effect SkidPavement = fsfx_PFX_77755038474E6775336E5A6C3231714C4F656D4E4E48576F4544356C6F36676F //FSFX_PFX_Effect I see these effects in the effects folder in P3D. What else could be the reason that the contrails don't work as they should.
May 10, 201610 yr Odd, I'm seeing contrails in AI (MT6 also) provided altitude and conditions are right for them. Cheers, Rob.
May 10, 201610 yr Author Odd, I'm seeing contrails in AI (MT6 also) provided altitude and conditions are right for them. Cheers, Rob. Flying at high altitudes, usually around FL350 or above, and seen AI at similar altitudes on my Pro ATC display, I have great contrails on my 737 NGX ( Immersion) and no other contrails anywhere are to be seen, and this has been for weeks and weeks. Two other people having the exact same issue. P3D 3.23
May 11, 201610 yr As Bob says he's not the only one, I too don't see any contrails from my MT6 models regardless of altitude or conditions. I never fly offline but do all my flying online on Vatsim and I don't have MT6 fully installed but only use the MT6 models, not sure if that matters in this case.
May 12, 201610 yr I don't use VATSIM or do online flying ... but ran a test flight last night in the 500S and saw some: see 8:17 min and 11:42 min ... I only 10% Commercial and 5% GA for AI. Perhaps try deleting your shaders folder and have it rebuilt by P3D? Also, you need to run PrecipitFX and apply any time you add aircraft, I'm using the shorter contrail option since I the long ones seem a little too long IMHO. Cheers, Rob.
May 12, 201610 yr Thanks Rob, certainly looks very nice when the contrails are working the way they should! I already tried removing the shader cache on several occasions and still I have yet to see any contrails and I did make sure the effect has been added correctly to the AI models so at this point I'm not really sure what could be the problem. I don't think flying online vs offline should make any difference since the exact same MT6 models are used.
May 12, 201610 yr Try flying "off-line" and see if you get them ... I could see how and understand how some effects my not be rendered when doing online/multi-player. Similar to how some effects don't appear in Instant Replay. But it seems "online" appears to be the common thread for those not getting contrails. Cheers, Rob.
May 12, 201610 yr Maybe you're right. Not sure though if I will be able to try it in offline mode because I don't have the actual MT6 product installed but only the a/c models. But maybe P3D will still use the models as long as there's an entry for them in the simobjects.cfg file. Will do some testing when I find the time for it.
May 12, 201610 yr Author I fly offline all the time, and have deleted shader cache a few times. Never see any contrails. Google this topic brings up quite a few threads with this same issue. http://www.avsim.com/topic/460334-effects-not-showing-on-ai-aircraft/
May 12, 201610 yr Did you open up PrecipitFX and hit the Apply again? Also try un-selecting contrails, hit Apply, then select contrails and hit Apply again. Assume you have your special effects sliders at Max in P3D graphics settings? After reading that thread I really don't understand why people are copy aircraft files around? MT6 operates outside of the P3D dirs and the only entry needed is in SimObjects.cfg which will point to the MT6 path OUTSIDE of P3D dirs. Cheers, Rob.
May 12, 201610 yr I remember reading somewhere in the past that for the installation tool that comes with PrecipitFX to work the models you want to add effects to need to reside under the Simobjects folder. That's why I made it a habit to move all MT6 models under the Simobjects folder before making any changes but maybe that's not required anymore. Tonight I removed and then re-added all PrecipitFX effects for my MT6 models and I also found a setting saying something about overriding already existing effects so I tried checking that option this time around and I also ticked the option to have shorter contrails just like you did Rob so let's see the next coming flights if I'll get any contrails now.
May 12, 201610 yr Author The reason MT6 aircraft had to be moved into the simobjects folder up till a couple of months ago, was that was the only way that the effects could be written to each aircraft.cfg file that was in the MT6 folder. In a recent update to PreciptFX, that has been changed so now, the effects will be added to the my Traffic aircraft without having to move them. You just have to make sure, as I already mentioned, that each aircraft.cfg as [effects] in the file, otherwise the effects from Preciptfc will not be added to that aircraft. I have carefully experimented with this issue and come to this conclusion. 1. The effects are properly written to all the MT6 aircraft as I copied and pasted on my post above. 2. The effects files for PreciptFC are all in the P3D effects folder, where they are supposed to be 3. Despite all this, there are no AI contrails. ever,
May 14, 201610 yr option to have shorter contrails just like you did Rob so let's see the next coming flights if I'll get any contrails now. Both long and short contrails work for me. Cheers, Rob
May 14, 201610 yr Both long and short contrails work for me. Cheers, Rob What about this setting, do you have it enabled or disabled? Just trying to understand why some see the contrails and other don't. One thing of course is the temp needs to be below -30C. In a recent update to PreciptFX, that has been changed so now, the effects will be added to the my Traffic aircraft without having to move them. Just tried this out and works as advertised, no more need to move the folder before changing the effects - very nice!
