June 24, 20169 yr Another leg closer to getting the XB-70 back to NASA (Palmdale). Taxiing out at Perth. See you later Perth! Global AI shipping package in full effect! Plenty of featureless water until Africa and O R Tambo airport, Johannesburg. A bit high on the visual approach here, but she can (and does!) drop like a stone - a good and bad thing. June 25, 20169 yr Awesome bird, what was your cruising altitude and speed? R. Francois Myburgh "I have made a ceaseless effort not to ridicule, not to bewail, not to scorn human actions, but to understand them." Baruch Spinoza (because to quote Bertrand Russell would have been offensive)

June 25, 20169 yr Author ... and, where and how did you refuel?? No need! The Valkyrie can manage that in one hop Mach 2.7 equates to max range cruise, She's burning around 56000 lb per hour of fuel (less as she gets lighter). Go to Mach 3 and the fuel consumption doubles. Her internal fuel capacity is jut shy of 240000 lb. Awesome bird, what was your cruising altitude and speed? June 25, 20169 yr My bad... I skimmed Wiki and saw "Range 3,700nm" which wouldn't do on your 4,000nm trip. But of course these things were designed to come back! Fantabulous aircraft, looks bleeding edge even today. Hard to pick a favourite wicked-looking aircraft between this and British TSR-2. And which had the bigger Raw Deal.
June 25, 20169 yr Author I hear you. Do you know, I haven't actually got a TSR 2 in my hangar yet. Shame on me.
