August 9, 20169 yr Great country. If you want some adventure, fly up the lake and try the East landing at Hite. Or maybe do the safe thing, fly on by, and head on up to Moab. August 10, 20169 yr A long time ago, not too many years after they closed the gates to start filling Lake Powell in 1963, I flew in a Cessna 172 with a friend out of Page. I was completely jealous! It's the reason I got my pilot's license. Since then, I've been back there many times. My wife & I consider the Colorado as "Holy Water". We at least try to dip a hand in it every year. Back in the good days, when we owned a plane, several friends of ours, as well as ourselves would fly from Salt Lake City to Monument Valley every October. Then we'd head over to Page for three days. Lot's of side trips to Sedona, Arizona, the Grand Canyon, and Moab. Loved flying up the lake, to the confluence of the Colorado & Green rivers, then past Dead Horse Point & Canyon Lands area around Moab. IMO, it's some of the most beautiful & panoramic scenery in the world! That's why I'm a scenery junkie for real & simulated flight. I just couldn't get into the spirit of IFR, when all of this was so close to home. Thanks for the video.. We did at least make it there this year by car.
August 10, 20169 yr This is a few months old, but I thought the OP and LAdamson might dig it. BasementFlyGuy GA home cockpit running X-Plane 11 (and sometimes P3D) Blog: www.ontheglideslope.net YouTube: OnTheGlideslope Channel Facebook: On The Glideslope
August 10, 20169 yr basementflyguy...... Hadn't seen that one. Watched the Monument Valley a month or so ago. Does look quite real, and the impression of being there.

August 10, 20169 yr Author Thanks for all the comments everyone! That's a sweet set-up, basementflyguy! I really think every pilot should fly out in that area. It makes you appreciate how wonderful this planet is. Our Page - Phoenix turn is probably my favorite route, especially when we fly over the Grand Canyon! We're going to start flying to Telluride again this December, so that might be a close second! -Chris Crawford -ATP/MEL - B737 / B777 / B-727 / EMB-145 / LR-JET
September 3, 20169 yr What a superb video. I have explored that area in our RV a few times, but have never seen it from up there. It's even more beautiful. September 4, 20169 yr Author Thank you very much! I wish we had a longer overnight there, so I could explore the area some more. Maybe one day I can take a boat out on Lake Powell -Chris Crawford -ATP/MEL - B737 / B777 / B-727 / EMB-145 / LR-JET
