FS9 Ground Texture Don't Look Like They Should

Recommended Posts

Because I have seen screen shots of many other people where this problem is not occurring

It would be but they just don't take a screen where you can see it. You can reduce the blurring with cfg settings but I've never heard of a magical solution to completely eliminate it. It's just the rendering engine of FS, built to not completely bring to their knees computer systems built back in 2003 when FS was released.

Here's what I have and it looks good.

[DISPLAY]
UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=60
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120
TextureMaxLoad=9

[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=1000.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=3.5
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=3.5
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1

Also try removing the MapBias=8 and RenderToTexture=0.

What does the MapBias=8 do?

I misspelled that, it's MipBias of course...

It's the Mipmap Level slider in Display settings, hardware tab.

I have my slider at 4 and have no MipBias entry in fs9.cfg at all.

I tried setting the slider to 8 (max) and got the entry.

For some reason, having the slider at 4 seems to work best at least with nVidia cards.

Ah right, didn't get that :). I set mine to 11.

neumanix:  No change with those settings either.  At least none that I can notice.

Perhaps one of you could take a shot similar to the one above and post to compare.  Just because it's in the middle of nowhere it is sitting on rwy 10 at 46CA.  While this particular one is sitting on the ground just looking in the very slight distance, the other shots I've seen that I'm using to judge have been in the air looking away (obviously).  I was just using this airport to play with because of the hills close by and it makes it easy to tell without having to get off the ground.
