December 19, 20169 yr Moderator Mike - Safe mode is a function of the OS not the BIOS. There really is no good way for the BIOS to do that. All the BIOS does is tell the MOBO which drive to use to boot from not WHAT or HOW to boot. You are talking about loading drivers, etc which is not something the BIOS does. It would have to actually read the disk, locate drivers, etc - you see what I mean. Your best bet is either MSCONFIG or boot from a CD and go from there but the BIOS cannot do what you want, nor should it, IMHO. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
December 19, 20169 yr Hi Mike, You bring up matters that are indeed important and worthy of investigation and discussion. If they are of particular concern to you I suggest you begin a thread so that readers can focus on understanding the matters. This thread, started by someone else other than you or I is primarily about whether recent and current Nvidia drivers create or solve a problem concerning flashing spray or smoke effect in SLI. Not sure the other things are directly related. We know that the recent drivers will work in SLI, yes, and that there may be some advantages to them, and that some people with SLI will choose to live with the flashing. However the higher order of this thread, or others on the subject must be whether or not the flashing continues to be a problem with releases of Nvidia drivers. Kindest regards and seasons greetings.
December 19, 20169 yr Hi Vic, Stephen, Everything you say is, of course, true and I understand that. In my defence, this thread strayed somewhat simply because 1) there was a mention of DDU and its use of SAFE MODE, which struck a chord, and 2) my awareness that this discovery surfaced about a year ago since building my new rig which has a MoBO with a UEFI BIOS. To that extent I felt the matter was relevant and worthy of further discussion. Remember, I am still on Windows 7 and so the virtues of fast booting really doesn't apply in the same way that it does for those of you on Windows 10. Yes, my system does boot more quickly into Windows than previous currently active builds under Windows 7, but I know this is attributed to the use of SSD rather than a mechanical HD. In the end, it may just be down to the speed of boot and insufficient time for the O/S to intercept an F8 keypress or pressing F8 is happening before the keyboard USB drivers are loaded, by which time it's too late anyway. Back on topic, regarding the SLI flickering issues I have joined others by registering my concerns with NVIDIA and asked for clarification from the Developers on the LM Prepar3D General Forum. Whether this will evoke a response remains to be seen. I'm not holding my breath. Best regards and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you both... and, of course, any others who may be reading this. Mike
December 19, 20169 yr Hi Mike, On the other hand, even though I have been seduced by Windows 10, the boot and safe mode issues you are raising is of equally or greater importance with Windows 7 adherents, of which I so recently belonged. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year too! Kindest regards,
December 20, 20169 yr Moderator I think we've covered this pretty well so I am shutting it down. When NV releases new drivers we can start a new thread. Meanwhile, if anyone wants to continue a thread re safe mode, please start a new thread. thanx, Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
