December 12, 20169 yr Author So following on from the original post title (and I make no apologies for the aircraft because we love it!), myself and all the guys, who fly as First Officers for MCE, took a Christmas trip from Sonoma Co to Lake Tahoe. Each of the guys took a turn at the Lear controls. Also, half way through the flight, we had some new guys on ATC...called Meatwater I believe..Enjoy! PS The drinks cabinet only got opened after landing!
December 12, 20169 yr Hi David, Always welcome in my book - I love the approach into Lake Tahoe... I did watch a big chunk of it - I'll catch the whole thing soon... Did you have your new Ceraproc voices in use at all ??? I had a FANTASTIC flight yesterday myself - very recently upgraded to AS16/ASCA and this was my first flight landing near minimums with it... Flew from KSHD into KBUF yesterday around 20:00Z just as that big winter storm system was moving through Buffalo - minimums on the ILS 23 are 200 ft AGL - again - all my deicing equipment running full tilt - flew the approach in full IMC with snow, ice, and rain... The plane performed flawlessly... I swear I had beads of sweat on my forehead as I passed through 500 ft AGL straining to see something out the windscreen but rewarded with nothing other than the incredible new AS16/ASCA effects swirling/whisking the clouds/precip passed my windscreen... At 250 ft AGL I could just barely make out part of the approach lighting system (thanks FlyTampa) those ALSF-2 lighting systems sure help... As the DH light illuminated I had enough to continue my approach... Since we didn't have to fly out until the following afternoon - after securing the aircraft - we headed to the airport bar for a few beers and some much needed R&R before catching the shuttle to our hotel... We earned our pay on this flight... PS: If you're ever in Buffalo - go to "Charlie the Butcher" and get a "Beef on Weck" - - - it has to be the greatest sandwich ever invented and is unique to Buffalo... It's amazing how immersive this can be when everything works right... AS16/ASCA are definately worth the upgrade from ASN/REX - two thumbs up from me - it goes without saying for the plane as well... Regards, Scott
December 12, 20169 yr Author I did watch a big chunk of it - I'll catch the whole thing soon... Did you have your new Ceraproc voices in use at all ??? The Meatwater RC4 voices came in half way! My "mission" in this movie was to show off all the "in built" MCE voices. I have CereProc Jess installed into MCE and to be honest, she's just superb. Appears to have more vocabulary. So my next movie will feature only Jess! I chose Jess partly because she's from my neck of the woods! CereProc are doing a sale right up to Christmas, only £10 for a voice pack!:-) They have a stunning variety of high quality voices and of course can be used in Voice Attack also. My next "movie" will be a Christmas trip, in the MU-2, with Jess in the right hand seat. . I swear I had beads of sweat on my forehead as I passed through 500 ft AGL straining to see something out the windscreen but rewarded with nothing other than the incredible new AS16/ASCA effects swirling/whisking the clouds/precip passed my windscreen. Funny you mention that experience! I did a flight into Lake Tahoe with cloud down to tree tops! Using the Localiser approach only in the Lear, got to DH and was just about to GA when the runway lights appeared and we emerged from the murk....it was raining heavily so the superb Flysimware rain effects were all over the windshield. I use FSGRW with REX SC/TD and am totally happy with the combo. I guess its whatever works for you? PS: If you're ever in Buffalo - go to "Charlie the Butcher" and get a "Beef on Weck" - - - it has to be the greatest sandwich ever invented and is unique to Buffalo... I was in Omaha, SAC AFB, back in 1978. I had the biggest T Bone I have ever seen! Took me a day and a half to digest it all...Couldn't fly afterwards due to being overweight...LOL:-) Cheers David
December 13, 20169 yr Hi David, SAC base - ex-military ? ex-US Navy myself - submarines - but I was a mere Freshman in high school in 78... We hooked up with a bunch of Brit sailors off a Trafalgar class boat on a port visit and gave them the tour of Groton CT - or "Rotten Groton" as we not so affectionately called it... Great bunch of guys... Yeah - definitely going to pick up the voices on sale - which I can use with VA immediately... I looked at the pricing on MCE and it's pretty steep - I've already blown my FS budget taking advantage of the seasonal sales - hah - it's really like the only time I buy FS stuff... Does MCE ever go on sale ? If not - there's no rush and I can pick it up whenever... Looking forward to your video demonstrating the new voices - I think they might flow a tad better than the strung together WAV files... Regards,Scott
December 14, 20169 yr Author Hello Scott, a Dolphin wearer? Yes, well it was a while ago. But whilst over "there" in light blue, married a gal from the Windy City! Oh and doesn't Beef on Weck come with "that" gravy? The CereProc Jess voice is well suited to flows/checklists, excellent vocabulary. There is now a way of having a crew of four on the flight deck! Myself (Captain, obviously!), two MCE crew members, namely a First Officer and a Flight Engineer....and if you run Voice Attack as well as MCE, That's four! Ye gods, your thinking, what's he flying with four? ......A Vulcan perhaps? No that's five! LOL! Seriously though, if you venture into the L1011, or MD11, MCE can fully support both FO and FE positions. Both with flows and checklist items that are specific to the crew stations! Its quite something, hearing those extra voices reciting flows/checklist that you have made. What a retirement, to now live life vicariously as a simmer! Happy Simming. Cheers David
December 14, 20169 yr Hi David, Hah - yep - Shellback - Bluenose - and member of the Imperial Order of the Golden Dragon as well... Girl from Chicago - eh - good deal - a little payback for all the women US GI's stole from your fine isle during WWII... Regards, Scott
