How to fly VFR online?

Featured Replies

I've got a wonderful coverage of renowned UK terrains, meshes, airports and some wonderful areas and cities in Europe and in the US. Basically I would like to fly series of hops in those areas in a few small airplanes either from big and small airports. And I want to fly those online in VATSIM. I flew only IFR flights in jetliners online before. So now I want to change and make it both sightseeing and realistic fun, flying with vatsim ATC/UNICOM at low altitudes across the country. Can anyone please advise me where I can read about how to fly these sightseeing tours online, what are the regulatins in Europe, UK and the US and particularly your practical advise and experience will be very much appreciated. Please post everything you'll find pertinent to my mission. Thanks!

there's no difficulty flying vfr on vatsim. Just follow normal vfr flight rules. You probably should file a vfr flight plan so the controller will know more about your intentions. You can show take off and landings at the same airport, if that's what you want. I've flown vfr on vatsim in the u.s several times with no difficulties. f course, you will want to observe flight classification zones so that you do not find yourself in the way of flight patterns at heathrow...or lax...:-)Sherm

I'd suggest you buy the CAA 1:250,000 charts ("VFR charts") for the areas you're interested in flying over. They give details of all controlled airspace upto 5000ft and restricted and other areas to avoid, such as high intensity, radiation, gliding, bird sanctuaries etc.The National Air Traffic Control Services AIS website requires registration but is free so you can download all the information you're ever likely to need - including the VFR rules and aerodrome information and charts for all licenced aerodromes.http://www.ais.org.uk/aes/login.jsp;WLSSec...2422922!80!7002Have fun planning and flying your routes ;)

Thanks for your tips. Anyway did anyone come across examples of VFR plans and radiocomms in VATSIM / IVAO? There are quite a few of the templates and examples for IFR. A "walkthrough" type will make it much easier to understand and follow. There are dozens of books on VFR and pertinent information about the real thing, but I just want something more compact and focused on PLAYING :) it online in VATSIM. Thanks.

For the UK, look at http://www.vatsim-uk.org/ There are some nice training pages, including examples of VFR flights, circuit procedures and so on. Click on "pilots" then "pilot training". You'll find that UK procedures and language are a little bit different to the US ones though ;-)

As to the procedures and language that are different to the US ones I dont care as long as they are the similar to the russian ones, lol.:-hah

Well, on the whole, the UK doesn't speak Russian.....(I think Russia and France are the only two countries that didn't sign up to providing all ATC in "English")

France does. Only small local non ATC fields are generally French only.

Look for the Ipack ( http://www.ivao.aero/training/tutorials/Ip...Start_Here.htm) its all in there. There are also organised VFR world tours as well as VFR tours for most Divisions.Andrew Brown192029.png
