David Maltby's BAC111 is here!!

Hello Janne and Dasher7, thanks for the replies.Yes I am of the same mind as you - I tried modifying the BAC-111 soundpack for days before I gave up - I didn't have enough technical knowledge though, just enthusiasm to try to get them to work. When I finally gave up and downloaded the KX Project drivers I was very sceptical at first, and I didn't like the interface either because it was so different. All I can say now is that since I have installed the KX drivers (around late August) I have not had one single crash at all. With the Creative drivers I remember I used to get crashes all of the time! This is quite a statement to make and very unusual but I swear it is absolutely true. I have an AMD4000 running Windows XP SP2 with a Radeon X800. I am on the internet for hours every night, I normally have WinAmp playing in the background while I am editing Word, Excel and powerpoint files. I play FS2004, Pacific Fighters, Strike Fighters project 1, LOMAC, Grand Prix Legends, ToCA 2, Richard Burns Rally, X3 reunion, Half Life 2, Call of Duty 2, FEAR, Flat-out, Far Cry and a few other more obscure games - I don't get any problems now (I did get artifacts from overclocking my graphics card too far once). The record is I had my computer on for four full days once, editing documents and playing music during the day, the internet and games during the night (you will probably guess I left it downloading overnight) it never crashed once - I finally turned it off to give it a rest!So I am beginning to think it was the Creative Labs own drivers that might have been giving me trouble before this. (I have tried loads of versions by the way and waited with baited breath to try every new release - they never fixed the problem up to now, and don't respond very well to people who report the problem).I am not knocking the Audigy 2 ZS - it sounds fantastic with the KX Project drivers and is dead stable. Apparently KX can't add full EAX capability to their drivers because EAX technology is licensed to Creative Labs. But I play all of my games with full 5.1 surround sound and full effects (echo etc.) but obviously I can't activate EAX, although I don't think I have ever missed it - the games and music still sound great. Some people say the KX drivers are better for the sound quality, but I have played music through quality headphones using both sets of drivers and I can not tell the difference, sounds great with both, KX just don't crash.Shame creative can't issue the KX Project drivers and just bolt EAX onto them! He He!As for sound packs, I don't know of another Rolls Royce Spey sound pack, but you could try the sound pack for the freeware SGA DC-9, I seem to remember they sounded pretty good and would be fairly similar. Other than that you could try thr RR Conway pack thet comes with David Maltby's VC-10 (it should just ignore the lack of engines 3 and 4). Not too authentic, but it would sound different!RobPS. at Dasher7's suggestion I will post a link on the hardware forum about the Project KX drivers for anyone who wants to give them a try.

Just had to say outstanding work as ever David !! Just stunning !Best RegardsEddy (North Wales)

No worries David, your work is payware quality at a freeware price, and many people thank you for that. Someone will figure out better VC lighting, but until then, I will enjoy her during the day!Are there any private repaints? I noticed a few private jets on airliners.net, some with N-reg numbers

>Right, the rest is for Bill Leaming... :-lol >Agreed, the model's VC lighting could be better, but it's as>good as I could manage. However, this 1-11's main panels are>supposed to be floodlit, the main gauges were not backlit.Dave, I am very, very delighted with your wonderful gift to the community! I'm a sucker for steam gauges... ;)Yes, I'm aware that these gauges use post lighting, but that is part and parcel of the "backlighting technique." The main point is to provide the "light source," how it is used is another question entirely.BTW, the technique works just as well with FSDS2 as it does with GMax. Now with FSDS3 it is even easier. After the crush and rush of the season, if you'd like some assistance with implementing some cool lighting, I'd be delighted to work with you to get the 'process' down pat. ;)Write to me at [email protected] at your convenience and pleasure.Merry Christmas, and thank you once again for such a delightful present! ;)
