December 21, 200520 yr Stunning...simply stunning.David Maltbys FREEWARE! BAC 111 is one of the best airplanes I've ever flown in FS9...period. Also has a very unique way of viewing in the VC that makes flying VC a practical way to work vs 2D..but both are available. Also the Spey sounds rock. MAN!!...this is great work. Thepayware guys better pay attention to how he handles the VC...well worth adopting!!!http://www.planeprofiles.com/pics/aa_bac111.jpgIm mostly a single engine GA pilot, but I do like these brit oldies. Daves quality is unbelievable. Gonna have to spend some time with his manual now. What a christmas present...this...the iFly 747 and hopefully Koorbys OZ.Eric AND
December 21, 200520 yr BobcatUK,I contacted David about the problem and he, too, pointed towards problems with the Audigy ZS 2. After reading through various forum threads about the issue I'm convinced that there IS a very real problem with the Audigy ZS 2, however, it is SO rare on MY particular system that I have never realized it can be that bad for some people. As I explained to David, his 1-11 is only the second FS2004 add-on to give me this "squeal of death" problem (the first one was Bill Lyons' Grumman Goose) - and I've never, ever run into it in any other games on my system. I'm sure you can understand why I might be hesitant to give up advanced EAX effects in other games just because two FS2004 add-ons happen to bug out on me :) Plus, I'm of the mindset "if it's not broken, don't try to fix it". I can't possibly consider my system "broken" in this case.David also noted the same as you did - these are just wave audio files and a text file and shouldn't crash a computer on their own. However, David admitted that the 1-11 sounds ARE very loud and as we all know, "BGL files are just data", too, yet they can be the cause of memory leaks and "cause" crashes. Before contacting David I was considering the possibility that, being so loud, the 1-11 sounds "overdrive" (as in, "play outside the boundaries of") some limit in the Audigy hardware / software and cause a BSOD.I tried quieting down the 1-11 WAV files as well as toning down the min / max volume settings in the CFG file, but this didn't seem to help. I don't understand the inner workings of the sound.cfg file, though, so there could be some critical setting I missed. Perhaps some soundfile repeats too fast or simply changing the min / max settings isn't enough. In fact, the first time I changed the min / max settings to "0", the sim crashed almost immediately after I applied thrust, before the plane even started moving (and the sounds did play, regardless of a "0" setting).Personally I think this problem could be fixed by David if he released a "toned down" version of the 1-11 soundset (I'd do it myself but as you can see above, I don't have the know-how), but I don't know if it's in his interests to do so. It does take time to edit the files and have them tested, and even then there might be someone who has problems with it. For me the fix for the time being is to use some other soundset that does not cause the "squeal of death". Now if only I could find one that better resembles the 1-11 than the default 737 one :D Any suggestions? The sound issue aside, David's got a great release here. Well worth an award of some kind :)

I'm exactly of the same mindset, except that I'm not really after the advanced EAX effects. But I have other critical simulators that I fly, and no way I'll swap the drivers. Let's hope David to follow up on this problem and perhaps also we'll get some other tips here on the boards.

How do they get along? I had this problme some time back when I was using it with TIR3 then. I had to uncheck some of the ACs cool options to have steady screen with TIR.Thanks again.
December 21, 200520 yr Dirk, I don't use ActiveCamera mainly due to me being lazy and not mailing Serge for a replacement key. When I did use both, as long as I kept the ActiveCamera latency stuff off ( including buffeting ) they got along great. Thanks for the compliment on the video though. I hope David puts backlighting in the gauges, it totally ruins an otherwise flawless package.
December 21, 200520 yr > I hope David puts backlighting in the gauges, it totally>ruins an otherwise flawless package.Exactly. Is there a work around for this in the meantime? I recall I tried to add some brightness manually in a couple of freeware VCs some time ago. I dont know if it helps watching the gauges though. As to the AC's latency option I guess VECTOR 6DOF is a good substitute for it.
December 21, 200520 yr Amazing video. I'm very tempted to get a TrackIR but not sure how I'd get on with it, using a multimonitor and second PC setup.
December 21, 200520 yr >Amazing video. I'm very tempted to get a TrackIR but not sure>how I'd get on with it, using a multimonitor and second PC>setup.Fear not, go and get it. You may decide you'll not need so many monitors anymore :). I stay with 3 though.
December 21, 200520 yr Even with TrackIR I use two monitors. The second one is for my 'other' programs, such as Active Sky, my approach plates, etc...
December 21, 200520 yr Too bad there are no backlit gauges, I guess I won't be flying this at night. My eyes can't stand the bright dome light at night, it ruins night flying. But overall a great package

It's completely useless at night...>>;(>>Hmm, this sounds very critical to me. Any tips on improving>the lighting at night? It is precisely the same issue that occurred with the TBM700. If the modeler doesn't make provision for vc gauge backlighting, there's nothing anyone else can do to "fix" it. I freely published a tutorial on how to implement proper gauge backlighting over two years ago, but unfortunately, some folks still haven't found it... including I should hasten to add, some payware developers!.Aside from this this one ommission however, Dave's package is absolutely stunning! I love every bit of it, and will simply restrict myself to daytime flying... ;) Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 21, 200520 yr I've been trying to get on here for two days!! You can Stick yer flippin' Cookies mate!! :D Anyway I just wanted to say thanks for all the nice things said about the model. It is much appreciated.Right, the rest is for Bill Leaming... :-lol STOP TELLING ME OFF, I TRIED MY BEST TO LIGHT THE ****ER PROPERLY!Seriously Bill, I found & read your tutorial ages ago but just could not relate to it.And the tutorial does state very early on in big red letters:--WARNING- At the time of this writing, this technique will only work with GMax models. I'm working with Louis Sinclair (the author of FSDS2) to extend this wonderful technique to the FSDS2 modeling program.I use FSDS2, so what was the point in trying?Maybe things have moved on by now, but to be honest there were more important issues to wrestle with.Agreed, the model's VC lighting could be better, but it's as good as I could manage. However, this 1-11's main panels are supposed to be floodlit, the main gauges were not backlit.Happy Christmas to you alland all the best for the New YearDavid Maltby
December 21, 200520 yr "Creative don't seem to be able to write drivers for their own cards these days!"What do you mean these days? They never could...You may wanna post the driver link at the hardware forum since there's been several recent posts about Audigy, - I think you could help several folks with probs!GREAT PLANE DAVID!Cheers,Dasher7
