After a 5h flight from KSAN to KBOS proceeded to break the gear off!

It's been awhile since flying the 777, so took the plunge for a x-country run using FSCaptain.  All was perfect until at the last moment I decided to let the plane land itself. 'LANDING 3' was displaying as she was locked on to the glideslope, but clearly the plane didn't flare at all, and crashed into the deck.  Yes, the gear was down!  Altimeter was set!  What do you think happened?  I'm rusty on the 777 so must have done something wrong in a big way.  I always land planes myself just for fun though I think that with these in the real world the planes land themselves.

What do you think happened?

Maybe you landed at too fast a speed. In the T7 you must control the speed. The airplane even on a LAND 3 approach and landing does not control the speed.

Hmm, well, I was set at REF speed a mile or so before TD.  At least that's what I recall!  Is auto throttle typically disabled during landing when using LAND 3?

How smooth would LAND 3 landings normally be?  With FSCaptain you are scored for landing quality and I wonder how that would go w/ LAND 3.

An autoland can be done with A/T engaged, and the landing is quite normal.  I normally hand fly the landing without A/T, but have done autolands at least for test purposes and as Michael pointed out you need to use speed intervention.  The FMC arbitrarily sets speed to 170 but if you are not controlling speed either with MCP SPD or manually until 1 nm before threshold then that is probably your problem.  Speed intervention for a coupled approach should be done before 1500 ft AGL as a minimum.

I thought I was at REF speed which I think was around 144 or something but that's probably where to look.  Very good, thanks for those details.
