Not sure if this is feasible or even all that useful, but;  HID Macros has a feature where it will recognize multiple input devices utilizing the System ID.

This allows for things such as multiple keyboards, keypads, etc to be used as additional input devices.  If something like this could be incorporated into ChasePlane then it would allow for a second keyboard, USB keypad, or essentially any recognized device to be as a dedicated camera controller.

I'm currently using HID macros and USB Keypad for my 2D panels.

The source code is freely available, although I'm not sure what format it's in.
