January 5, 200620 yr I've just discovered CS have demo version of their C-130 available. Downloading right now. I have pro version but it is interesting to see all those visual protection things. :(
January 5, 200620 yr I downloaded and just took it off as it only had 1 wing the right was not there and no 2d cockpit just the vc.I tried all the icons on the left side of the cockpit and nothing worked, heck of a demo. JeffG
January 5, 200620 yr I did the same to see if a version without a 2d panel would give better VC performance. It didn't AND it wiped out my PRO version so I don't recommend this test to anyone else that already owns the product. Dave
January 5, 200620 yr Author Well I haven't got 'Arthur' (Half an Hercules) and I wasn't impressed with this offering either.I do love Hercules aircraft, don't get me wrong but this is an insult!Much better to have arranged a timed demo with everything working for an hour? I would have thought.Captain Sim you have made fools of us, not the way to attract additional business, I fear. Best to withdraw it before you get more critcism than you've had already?Price it at Dave Taylor
January 5, 200620 yr I hope CS hasn't made fools of those who downloaded the demo--I only suspect that it has the opposite PR effect they had intended. At least they tried--many vendors don't. I think all the embarrassing talk would guarantee they don't try again. And many vendors shy away from time limited demos since there's almost always someone who can crack them. Kind of hard to make a whole aircraft out of half an aircraft... I do agree that lower pricing may bring in more customers, but that's a general statement and not directed at CS. What gets better return on investment? Selling 200 units at $50 each or 1000 units at $25 each? It's a tough debate, and I don't know what the answer would be--it all depends on whether you would sell a thousand units, and whether the cost selling of the extra volume stays in proportion to the number of units.-John
January 5, 200620 yr Oh will Captain Sim ever recover from the bad press in the forums. I have to say there screen shots look great. Too bad I only read more pans than picks... :DKevin
January 5, 200620 yr I think the 130 screenies I've seen posted look outstanding. But I honestly think they sometimes misjudge how sophisticated the add-on user is. That can backfire so easily and sometimes it's best to rest on one's laurels (or screenshots in the case of the 130) rather than try to entice users with a demo that doesn't give the users a solid taste of the product. -John
January 5, 200620 yr I own almost all of em and the CS 130 is one of the best overall planes Ive flown. Its just done right all the way around.Thats coming from someone who was a avid vocal member of the cs haters club and who's blood pressure still rises when I hear PayPal.Yeah $50 bucks seems like a lot but its twice if not 3 times the plane as some of the other payware offerings. If anyone likes the c-130,older prop miltary planes or just wants one of the best, highest quality planes made for fs9, you will not be disappointed.I still cannot beleive Im saying this.....
January 5, 200620 yr Author At least they tried--many vendors don't. I>think all the embarrassing talk would guarantee they don't try>again. >-John>I don't want Captain Sim to lose heart on what I have said John. It is my opinion and mine alone. This package was in the wings before for three years to my best knowledge while questions from interested buyers were ignored. Captain Sim could, have won over their critics by offering this package at a sencible price to win back and silence all the adverse comments but, they chose not to.It emerged very shortly after PMDG's 'Queen' which is much better value for money. C.S. immediately assumed that they would charge the same as PMDG products and it backfired on them, when the pay-pal fiasco confirmed the attraction of their product. That alone was a reason for them to review the cost of the C-130.Like me, there are thousands of potential buyers that would love this aircraft but are demoralized by the price of it.It's a military aircraft, it doesn't have a place in a non-combat Simulator so, to make it attractive, the price needs to be too.I wouldn't mind betting that their sales are well down to what they was hoping for?The PMDG Queen is worth every penny of it's price because of it's comparison with it's reality. The C130 (being redundant now because of the 'C-17') isn't worth the same price, that's where they have underestimated their market IMO.Dave T. .........On the Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/ Dave Taylor
January 5, 200620 yr The demo is not bad at all. The VC was decent and the framerates were good. The FM is also acceptable compared to the 707. I wish CS had done this much effort on the 707. They would have had more customers regardless the price possibly. The 707 is CS Albatros. Till that is not fixed properly, confidence in CS products will be low regardless. Most payware users are old time simmers and will not forget and forgive that easily. John Sark
January 5, 200620 yr Well all I can say is DO NOT install this if you already own the pro. I lost my pro due to installing this for testing purposes and now I have to wait until they respond to my request to re-activate my license because I re-installed more than twice.
January 5, 200620 yr No offense to anyone here, but why would anyone that already owns the full version of the C130 install a demo version of that same product?
January 5, 200620 yr i got the demo and was impressed by what was there, and i have decided not to cancel my oder from play.com where i have pre-ordered the just flight boxed version (well dvd cased) for a much more realistic price of
January 6, 200620 yr The demo comes without a 2d panel. I wanted to see if the VC would have better performance with a 2d panel as part of the plane. It was a test.
January 6, 200620 yr I downloaded and installed the demo. In spite of there being only half an airplane, I was impressed with the visual quality and it flew better than I expected. The only complaint I have is the lousy frame rates. I kept the same settings (almost maxed out) that work perfectly on every other aircraft, and the C-130 demo is the only one that doesn't like them.I'll have to think long and hard about spnding $50.00 + on an aircraft that's a frame hog on my rig. Shame, too.Bob
