March 20, 20179 yr Hi all At what QTY level is it appropriate to start refilling engine and APU engine oil before a flight? Yours trulyBoaz FraizerCopenhagen, Denmark
March 20, 20179 yr Hi, A little search would have done no harm Romain Roux Avec l'avion, nous avons inventé la ligne droite. St Exupéry, Terre des hommes.
March 20, 20179 yr Oil is cheap compared to an engine shut down. If I am at a home base I'll top off the fluids regardless of level, if I'm away where maintenance calls are more expensive then I'll keep them above 80% unless it's a long haul then I want them above 90%. Pilot preference. Minimum values will turn yellow but I consider those a potential problem if they ever appear. Dan Downs KCRP
March 21, 20179 yr At home base we always topped up the engine oils. However, since access to the APU is a little tricky on the 744, we were told to top up the oil depending on the levels. APU oil level varies if the APU is running or not running. Unfortunately, I have long since forgotten the values. 0.60 running, 0.80 not running? I'd be suprised if the PMDG manual didn't specify this. It's interesting to note that certain APU oil types give different level readings. The oil level sensor is a "capacitance" type, so oil density may give different readings. I don't know what brand of oil is specified for PMDG APUs. John H Watson (retired 744/767 Avionics engineer)
