Mic selector on FO's side defaults to VHF2

Recommended Posts

Just out of curiosity I wanted to ask why the mic selector on the FO's side defaults to VHF2 when you power up the a/c from cold and dark?

Wouldn't both the captain as well as the FO normally communicate on the same communication system and only switch to another one when doing a PA, talk to the ground etc?

Audio selector or MIC selector?

...and what was it when you saved the panel state?

Either way, you'd want it on whatever combination addressed the situation at hand.

There are many examples of both pilots being on different transmitters, you can still listen to each other without both having same transmitter.

Thanks for your input guys.

I was talking about the mic selector and no panel states involved. Just by connecting the GPU to light up the radio stack on the FO's side the mic selector reverts to VHF2 regardless what it was set to when disconnecting the GPU.

Not a problem, was just curious.

Typically, you talk to ATC on  COM1 and do the operational stuff, company operations, ramp control etc. on COM2.  The FO does a lot of switching between the two com radios.

Thanks for the info, sounds like a good way doing it.
