Swapping 780GTX for 1080 - decent boost in FSX?

My P3D folder has 129 GB at the moment :-)

So be careful with the space.

Mine is a paltry 19.0Gb with a default install plus FSLabs Concorde-X.

But I have a plan. I spent 4 hours earlier listing all my FSX airports and whether there was a P3D version. Glad to report 80%+ are okay. For those that aren't I'll manually edit the scenery.cfg and see what they look like. Don't need the installer if they're already in FSX.

As I install them into P3D I'll uninstall them from FSX. Does anyone know off hand if I can just edit scenery.cfg and paste the FSX entries for FTX Global into my P3D one? The actual scenery resides outside the FSX structure. Don't see the point of installing all over again.

Hi,
For the FTX Global you need to go to FTX Central to install it again, either manually or automatically. I didn't know that earlier, so I used Central to download my FSX installation and have to download again for P3D. Safer way is manually downloading from the website and you can use that for both FSX and P3D.

Most of my airports work in P3D too, some of them do not but by searching Google I found the way to make them work. So far all of them work flawlessly.
Cheers,
Hoang Le

Hoang,

If I already have the installer for FSX saved on my NAS box is it really necessary to download it again. We're talking nearly 5Gb, I bought it on 12 Dec 2013 and I've extracted the installer and I have 3 options for install:-

FSX, P3D, P3D v2

Given I have already installed it for FSX surely I can just copy and paste the FTX Global entries in my fsx scenery.cfg into the P3D one?

Trying to register the product on the Orbx site is proving a pain.

I asked this once over ORBX forum and they said anything you install in FSX will not work with P3D. But you can use the installation file. Since your does not have P3D V3 option, I am not sure if it will work with P3D V3.

Thanks Hoang. I imagine if it's like FSX it changes core texture files so just pointing P3D to the FSX files probably won't work.

I'll have to contact them once I can get my product registered. That is proving a problem at the moment.

Did they change the way we register it? Mine was straight forward.

I didn't buy FTX Global from Orbx directly but from flightsimstore. To register my product with Orbx I have to enter the email address of flightsimstore but that generates an "Opps, something is wrong" message with no further help.

My GTX 650Ti Boost failed a couple weeks ago so I am actually in the market for a new GPU. I am currently running FSX:SE and after reading this thread I will probably buy a 1070 or 1060 as the 1080 has no worthwhile effects on the sim.
