January 12, 200620 yr Hi all.Are runways 01L and 01R at KSFO active for landing in real life? Pretty big hills surrounding that area..Can /Johan Windh
January 12, 200620 yr From what I gather it seems that those Rwy's don't have direct approaches and can only be used with a circle to land approach.
January 12, 200620 yr That's my recollection too. I believe the glide path would be too steep with the surrounding hills.I have taken off on the 19's (reciprocal) several times when I lived out there and the weather was bad. What I recall about that take-off is the very sharp left turn on take-off to avoid those same hills to the south.Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
January 12, 200620 yr I imagine not as the heavies, when heavily loaded, probably would be breaking all kinds of FARs trying to get over those hills.. I'm sure you can request them you wanted them though.----------------------------------------------------------------John MorganReal World: KGEG, UND Aerospace Spokane Satillite, Private ASEL 141.2 hrs, 314 landings, 46 inst. apprs.Virtual: MSFS 2004"There is a feeling about an airport that no other piece of ground can have. January 12, 200620 yr Author Hi,This is what I've learned as well. In very rare situations even large airliners have done the circle to land onto the 01's (up to 707's at least; don't know about widebodies).Take care,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
