A couple of months ago there was a new addon released, called World Terrain, that created photoscenery files while flying. They got their own forum on Avsim and there was a website to download the software, but I cant seem to find either one of them, anymore.

Does anyone know what happened to this promissing addon?

The Mods here weren't  sure if the developer  was engaged in copyright infringement so the AVSim  forum was closed. The company  is still in business but I'm not going to post a link.

 it looked like a repackaged version of tileProxy, which is a free open source project (and has a forum here on avsim too: https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/284-the-tileproxy-project-forum/  )

That could be but the app that you refer to automates the process. 

Ah ok, you would think that if someone would present a new addon on the no1 forum in the world, they would have given this some thought... ;)

The World Terrain project is active. I installed a licensed copy and it works well.
