duplicate towers

Recommended Posts

I have ran into several default airports in FSX and I have deleted the MTX bgl files but I am still getting duplicate towers. For instance I was at KPDX in Portland and There were are two towers side by side.  each hold short has two lines and different textures.  Taxiway signs in the middle of the taxiways.  Usually this is a sign of a duplicate AFCAD but I have used the Airport scanner program and it found nothing.  Any thoughts?

You have default airports showing in default scenery in the Pacific Northwest and you are seeing duplicate towers at Portland?  And you have FSX default scenery (or GEX) and several default airports around the country have duplicate towers even though you have renamed or deleted the MyTrafficX files.  Something else must be happening as I don't see this at default airports with MTX installed.   Look in Scenery/World/Scenery as anything in this folder loads.  If you have any FTX/Orbx scenery, I would suspect that program has a .bgl that includes Portland and other default airports in the area so that it matches their scenery.  Several years ago they released an excellent version of Portland to include the airport.  So, if you somehow installed that freeware, then the PNW scenery is causing the duplicate towers.

Okay, I had duplicate towers too at KPDX.  Here's what I did:

Disabled Orbx/FTX Pacific Northwest scenery via the scenery library.  Only one tower.  Reactivated PNW scenery.

Deactivated MyTrafficX scenery in the scenery library.  With the PNW activated and running, only one tower.  So the problem is the MyTrafficX scenery.

Closed down FSX.  Went to the MyTraffic/Scenery folder and found KPDX.  Renamed it by placing a .off at the end of the file.

Restarted FSX and loaded KPDX.  No duplicate tower.

So you must have deactivated the wrong file in the MyTraffic/Scenery folder.

Best regards,

Jim
