Will V4 benefit from the new I9 18 core processors

Featured Replies

Have a x299 apex mobo and 7740k and 7820x end of next week.

The 7820x is a cheap 8/16 c/t cpu that can hopefully overclock well 4.7-4.9ghz with better ipc then haswell-x it can be a very good CPU for P3D-V4.

7740k is a kabylake 4/8 ct that clock 100-200mhz higher in avarage compared to 7700k

Can't wait to see the results Hasse!  I'm eyeing that 7820x too :)  Unfortunately, early OC results on 7900x only reached 4.3GHz so I'm not going to get my hopes up too high for Skylake-X as a "gaming" (or simming) CPU.  The extra 10-15% IPC over Broadwell-E will be nice though, thanks to the redesigned cache architecture.  15% higher performance than 4.3GHz yields an effective 4.95GHz Broadwell-E level chip.  Since regular Skylake/Kaby Lake have an extra 7% IPC over Broadwell, my 7700k @ 5.2GHz is like a 5.64GHz Broadwell chip.  By my calculations Skylake-X will need to clock up to an actual clockspeed of 4.9GHz to match that clockspeed.

Let's hope de-lidding can unlock the potential of these chips.  I highly doubt 4.9GHz will be achievable with anything but sub-ambient cooling though.  Might finally be time for me to go phase change if that's the case...

I´m also waiting to see what the new i9 series CPU`s are able to.

3 weeks prior P3D V4 i had a 6950X @ 4,5 Ghz in my System and this CPU could keep P3D V3 on very steady 30 FPS in most situations.

I then downgraded to a 5820K and P3D V3 was again jumping between 20 - 29 FPS.  I would have loved to see what a 6950X could do in P3D V4.

But AMD is also bringing a 16 Core CPU to makret which probably could cost about 1000 Bucks which is about 600 less then the Intel one.

I've got a 10/20 core i7 6950x - it does use the extra cores, but the bottleneck is still the thread on Core 0 which is always at 100%, while the others are much less loaded. Unfortunately, Core 0 isn't always the fastest core either. There needs to be a way to specify which Core this main thread should run on.

Open task manager>details>p3d and set affinity mask and untick the core thats 100% and click ok. Then click on affinity mask again and tick it back on. And now it shouldnt be at 100% anymore, the load should spread out between all 4 cores now

well i own a 7700k at 5ghz and a ryzen 7 1700 at 3.8 ghz, in p3d 4 i see 5 fps difference, whats odd with ryzen, core 0 and core 15 both sit close to 100%.in my testing, clock speeds are not becoming such an issue anymore, if i can get the same performance with a 300.00 cpu with 16 threads and can use it for many other things, compared to an 8 core intel that's 600.00 or more, i will take the amd all day long, just to be clear i am not an intel or amd ######.in x-plane 11, i so no difference at all between my ryzen 7 and my 7700k accept the ryzen loads 5 secs faster.
