I've never trusted Seagates. They tend to run waaaaaaaay too hot.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

I'm going to have to give this no-DVD/Blueray drive another look. You see, I have recently picked up a copy of FS Global Ultimate Next Generation, which comes on NINE double-density DVDs...

...that might take more than a few hours to install, expecially across a LAN...

Personally, I'd wait another 6 months.

The 7700k is king right now, but Intel is releasing it's new line before Christmas and they are gonna be 6 cores to compete with AMD. Better future proofing if sims start making better use of multi-core in the next 3-4 years.

Well, if I could have waited I certainly would have. But with the dev machine's primary HD failing ever so more often, I simply cannot wait...

...completely aside from which the newest and greatest will take another six months or so to become plentiful enough to be affordable.

Understood, but Intel's pricing schemes are pretty much flat across generations based on the level of processor. The new 8700k (or whatever they call the equivalent) will still be around the same $330 that a 7700k costs today.

To illustrate, the 5790k/6700k/7700k all still cost the same today and the 4790k actually costs more still.

There will always be the next best thing just over the horizon.

Fr. Bill, looking forward to your reviews on the new system. I've been pricing out a build with very similar specs so I'll be interested to see how if performs for you. And that seems to be a very reasonable price compared to building yourself.
