June 22, 20178 yr I remember trying this a long time ago in V3 and it didn't work then either. I have for a long time setup graphics setting profiles for different location based on getting slightly over 30fps with VSYNC off and unlimited frames. Perhaps about 35 at worst. I'd call the setting after the airport I was flying out of for example "KJFK Heavy" for a PMDG or "KJFK GA" for A2A or something less demanding. once I found the sweet spot I'd turn on Vsync and voila, buttery smooth 30fps locked by my 30hz display. I have tried other strategy's to get the sim to run smoothly and I notices that the sim if you turn your setting high enough almost natively looks for 20fps and its quite smooth. I figures that I could use the 24hz option in NVP and run the sim the same way as I do for 30hz and get a smooth result (I know that its a trade off) but 24hz is not smooth! Its a slide show despite being setup the same way as 30hz. Comments, explanations or fixes please
June 22, 20178 yr Did you set your monitors to 24 Hrtz too... 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
June 22, 20178 yr You don't need to do anything to your monitor or TV. NVP with only show frequency's reported by the display. In my case 24hz is available. But when selected and the sim is run at umlimited frames with Vsync on it is not smooth at all. And the frame counter shows a steady 24fps. I have seen the sim very smooth at 20 fps so long as you don't pan wildly. In theory it should be just as smooth at 24hz as it is with 30hz.
June 22, 20178 yr Mz TV used for flying looks bad - stutters - when set to anything except 60Hz. I set 35FPS lock via NI and everything is perfect, even main thread CPU core load is lower. i7-8700k, RTX2070 Super, custom water cooling, 32GB RAM, 6TB SSD spacePrepar3D v4, X-Plane 11, 40" 4k TVRex, Active Sky, RealAir and A2A pilot, GTN, ORBX mostly everywhere
June 22, 20178 yr On my side 24-25Hz works almost as good as 30Hz (P3Dv3.3-3.4). I can see a slight difference when panning around, but in heavy scenarios like flying to/from EGLL, EHAM I use 24-26Hz. Will try 20 yet, just curious. Dirk.
June 22, 20178 yr I tried 23-24-25 HZ on my TV (via Nvidia Control panel resolution screen) and VSYNC on - unlimited FPS, and 25HZ is much smoother than the other two. What is it that you do in "NVP" ? Which stands for ? Michael Moe Michael Moe
June 22, 20178 yr I have flown with 24 Hrtz monitors ( set in NV CP ) and Unlimited + VSync On + DXTory limiter at 24 in P3Dv3. Now I have the same at 25 in P3Dv4. 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
June 23, 20178 yr All you guys are getting the experience that I would have expected to get with 24hz. Hmmm, Strange that it is not working for me, since I am the one who invented the 30hz at unlimited with Vsync on in the first place. LOL, Just kidding it wasn't me it was Rob.
June 23, 20178 yr I assume It's because its not 1/2 (30) or 1/3 (20) if you try putting the monitor to 20Hz and frames at unlimited I'm guessing it will work. 24 into 60 doesn't go. June 23, 20178 yr nope that's not how it works. Your thinking half refresh rate. This is more like exactly the refresh rate you set NVP
June 23, 20178 yr When you turn vsync on, any frame dip below 60 drops to 30. Any frame dip below 30 drops to 20. That's how vsync works and why it induces microstutter if you can't maintain it. Setting a custom refresh at 30 or 20 makes sense. Using odd numbers like 24 or 25 doesn't. im not thinking about 1/2 or 1/3refresh in nvi at all, although there are obvious reasons why it's set up that way. Exactly, when using 24 or 25 there will be no step down if the settings are configured correctly. Using 60 with downstepping to 30 or 20 and backup causes jitters or stutters.. 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
