This Can Ruin Everybody's Fun Of Creating & Post Screenshots

Recommended Posts

Hmm... created an account  at OZx hosting (fsfiles). Just need to convert the FSX:SE bmps to png etc. before trying to upload. The site has a 4Mb limit - all of my FSX bitmaps are 5Mb..

A 4MB image is very large and will provide a lot of detail for any screenshot!

If you're using Windows 10, when you want to take a screenshot, you can hit the Windows logo key, then Print Screen, and it'll automatically save it in a PNG format. That said, do you have a link to this site?

I have mentioned it several times and in the topics informing members on how to post an image but here is the link - http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/

It's donationware.

Best regards,

Jim

Copy, sir. I think the OZx hosting part threw me off, or my old age is getting to me. I do remember seeing that particular link somewhere.

This site is/was part of the site of the OZx scenery (http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/category/1-ozx-scenery/) which (sort of) is/was the predecessor (afaik) of Orbx. It's been around for a over decade or so now. I didn't even know it still was online...! It used to be for OZx and later on all kinds of flightsim pictures only but it seems they somehow turned it into a general picture hosting facility now. It was or still is run by JayKae, who also took care of the Orbx site (afaik) but not anymore (afaik). A lot of afaik's in this post  but anyway, it isn't strange if you have seen that link before.

It appears to work fine, once I'd dropped the size of the image file (convert to png :) ).

Jim - indeed 4Mb is large, but the default image file for FSX:SE pics on my system  (taken by pressing the "V" key in sim) is 5Mb bmp's. Any idea why that is so? Does it coincide with the native screen resolution of the user?

Anyhow, no problem having to convert images now I know the situation :)

I think so. Check your images, and you'd probably find that they're all the exact same size when they're in bitmap form. In any other form, it can vary based on how detailed the picture is.

Yes - all the V key does is save a BMP at full screen resolution which, as you've noticed, results in large files!

Another option is to convert to PNG (or any format) afterwards. I use a freeware programme called Bulk Image Converter (https://sourceforge.net/projects/bulkimageconver/) to batch convert all my screenshots from BMP to PNG (and delete the BMPs automatically) before uploading anywhere.

Yes very annoying to see my posted images and guides lost. I have closed my PB account. Like many others I became frustrated at the proliferation of ads and pop ups.

I would suspect that their ad revenue will plummet as accounts get closed and lost advertisers that don't want to become associated with the fall out of lost images on the net.

I hope it bites them hard in the arse.

I guess all of the advertising on the site did not make him rich enough.  Sad commentary IMHO.  AVSIM is still free though!!

Best regards,

Jim
