You may wish to try GE Nav.  It's now freeware and it uses Google Earth exclusively.  I think it's in the Avsim freeware utilities section.

Thanks. I may take a look but Little Navmap does everything I need.

Thanks for the link Ray and a huge thread it is

I wanted to know about the sound muting when you start clicking on LittleNavmap but it looks like there is a way of stopping that with a feature in P3D  ....

I'll take a look in the morning  .....

Paul,

The reason the sound in P3D stops when you click on Little Navmap is because P3D no longer has the focus.

Do you have a spare PC knocking around? I'm running this on a 2nd PC and you get none of those problems plus the map is visible continuously.

I am running it on a 2nd Screen Ray  so that isn't a problem for me  ... it's the sound muting that is the only issue  ... as I say .... I did see a way around it via something built into P3D  .....  Otherwise yes ... I'll hook another PC up or .. hmmmmm I wonder if it is available as an app on my ipad??

As soon as P3D loses the focus the sound stops. No way around that I'm afraid. It's a Windows 'feature'.

Don't think an iPad option is available. With so much info available via popups I think it only runs on a PC.

Ahh that is true ... looks like I'll be hooking up another PC then

Wow thanks for this thread. because of it I discovered Little Navmap. Open source as well. What a great flight planning tool. Kind of like Blender being open source. Can add various features to it like exporting and importing plugins etc. Great program..

Hi Ray,

If you are interested in an iPad option then I would recommend you take a look at RemoteFlight Map HD. I think it is brilliant and offers many options and is so easy to use. You have to install RemoteFlight Server on your PC to link the sim with the App. and FSUIPC is required as well. It's all explained clearly by it's very enthusiastic Author on his RemoteFlight Site. Also, it's worth noting he offers several other very useful Apps as well: https://remoteflight.net/

I installed this into P3D v4  ... It worked beautifully well for the first day  ....

Booted my system up yesterday and no connectivity and interaction at all with P3D v4  .... The map is stuck at Cambridge in the UK (where I landed the day before)  ...

I have tried everything to get it going  .... Tried to run the manual  ... doesn't initiate .. looked on their website for the manual .. couldn't find it  ... so I decide ok  .. I'll uninstall it from my system ... and guess what  ..... No uninstaller  ...... Avoid this one Ray unless others can prove me wrong

Hi Paul,

I think you are being a little unfair about this one. The latest version 1.4 build 4.1.2.3 (P3Dv4) seems very stable and, if you sign up to MapQuest Developer, you will receive an AppKey which allows limited free monthly access to global satellite imagery. This key needs to be added to the AirMap.ini file. Everything is explained on the Gemini website. Uninstalling the App is simply a matter of deleting the Gemini installation folder.

Mike

Thanks for all your suggestions. I should have mentioned I already use EFB but that is a navigation map. I specifically want a Google Earth type map and looking at all those suggested FlightMap comes the closest but only runs on a tablet. I have 2/3 of a 24" monitor free for a map so want something that runs on a PC and uses WideFS.

I found another thread last night and have downloaded GENav formerly payware but now freeware. It seems odd that there aren't any that use Google Earth. Do Google charge a fee for using their maps?

Yes they do now. Used to be free but for commercial uses they now charge (a lot I understand).

It is in P3D -- see following screenie:

Just unclick the "Mute on Focus" box -- works fine for me.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Mike but I'm more than happy with the display on my 24" WideFS monitor. More acreage than an iPad ;-)

Then it's quite understandable why the author didn't include that option. You'd think there wouldn't be charges for freeware software but that's Google for you.

I'll check that tomorrow but it would be odd if P3D continued to emit sound when it didn't have the focus. That's a Windows rule and should not be possible for individual apps to circumvent it.
